👉 Spotlight on Stuart: Six Sigma Green Belt in Action!

Last week, Stuart delivered a strong final presentation on his Green Belt project, focused on improving the utilisation of our Komax cut and strip machine.

Given the large variety of looms we build, he concentrated his analysis on our higher-volume products. His project charter clearly defined the mission, goal, objectives, critical success factors, as well as restrictions, assumptions, and constraints. He mapped the process using a SIPOC diagram and applied the full DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) to drive the improvements.

The objective was to increase the number of looms we can prep on the cutting machine while improving accuracy on wire lengths and reducing waste.

This continues the momentum from the whole cohort’s presentations at the end of March. We’re excited to see these Green Belt projects making a real difference across our operations!

We’re pleased to share that Philtronics has achieved ISO 13485:2016 certification for our medical device manufacturing activities! 🙌

This covers the manufacture of printed circuit boards, harnesses, and complete electronic assemblies to customer or Philtronics design, drawings, and/or specifications, along with the development and application of full turnkey testing solutions.

ISO 13485 is more than a milestone, it reflects the robust systems, controls, and processes required to operate within regulated medical manufacturing environments ✅

This certification is yet another string to our bow. Over the last 12 months, we’ve been focused on new goals and accreditations while investing heavily in our people. We have also achieved:

☑️ UL 508A, the internationally recognised safety standard for the construction of industrial control panels, covering proper component selection, wiring methods, spacing, and short-circuit current ratings to ensure safe and reliable panel building.
☑️ Cyber Essentials Plus, the UK Government-backed advanced cybersecurity certification that includes independent technical auditing to protect against common cyber threats.
☑️ In-house development of our staff through ongoing IPC Standard & Six Sigma training (for process improvement and quality excellence) as well as SolidWorks CAD design training (to enhance our design and engineering capabilities).

These achievements have significantly bolstered our capabilities and improved our overall service offering to customers across regulated and high-reliability sectors.

Over the Easter holidays, Lee came back to Philtronics for another stint with us, and his commitment and enthusiasm really shone through! It was great to see him back on the shop floor, getting stuck in and showing a positive attitude. Moments like these remind us why we love nurturing future talent!

We can’t wait to welcome him back properly as an apprentice once his course is complete at !

Wayne, Chris & Sam delivered their final presentations on their Six Sigma Green Belt projects today, showcasing the work they’ve put in over the past 8 weeks.

Their projects focused on:
• BOM Remediation and Return-to-Stores Process Optimisation
• Test Specification Accuracy and SharePoint Change Control
• Wire Storage Area Improvement

It was great to see them confidently applying the Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) methodology using their new Six Sigma tools to drive real improvements in our operations.

A huge congratulations to our newly certified Green Belts! 👏 We can’t wait to see the next two projects led by Stuart & Lucas.

Special thanks to Rose from TSW Training for delivering this valuable programme. We’re excited to see them all put their new skills and knowledge into practice over the coming months as we continue our continuous improvement journey.

Thank you to everyone who took part in Wear It Red for Velindre Day by wearing red and showing your support.

Thanks to your contributions, we’ve raised just over £100 – which has helped move our CFO Anne closer to her fundraising target for the Sierra Nevada challenge.

Your support gave her a real lift and the extra motivation she needed to complete a 15K practice walk with the Velindre Cancer Centre Fundraising trekkers on Sunday: 5 hours in cold and wet conditions, 22,000 steps, and 535 metres climbed.

We truly appreciate every person who got involved – it all makes a difference. Thank you again 💚❤️
