Access to reliable subsea information can have a direct impact on offshore project schedules.

In this case study, GMC Limited used a Trekker ROV supplied by Spectis Robotics to support a caisson replacement campaign offshore West Africa.

By providing rapid deployment and real-time subsea visibility, the system helped verify critical installation conditions while reducing diver exposure and minimising delays

The case study highlights the challenge, the solution and the results achieved during the project.

This week, our R&D and Electronic Engineer, Mostyn Farquhar , visited the University of St Andrews Robotics Society to share his journey into robotics and AI, and discuss the work he carries out at Spectis Robotics.

The presentation gave students an insight into the realities of robotics engineering and product development, from building new technologies to solving real-world challenges. Mostyn also showcased some of the exciting projects and products currently being developed by the team.

It's always encouraging to meet students with a passion for robotics and see the next generation of engineers exploring where the industry can take them.

A big thank you to the University of St Andrews Robotics Society for the invitation and to everyone who attended the session.

Finding a structure that hasn't been clearly identified for decades is not something we get asked to do every day.

Recently, the Spectis Robotics team supported and in locating and assessing a historic Victorian-era intake structure within a reservoir in the west of Scotland.

With the exact location unknown and limited information available on its condition, we deployed a Deep Trekker PIVOT ROV equipped with imaging sonar and 4K video.

Working from the shoreline, we successfully located the structure, confirmed its position and captured the inspection data needed to support future maintenance planning.

The entire mobilisation, survey and inspection was completed in under four hours, avoiding the need for an initial diver search operation.

It's a great example of how ROV technology can provide valuable information quickly, safely and cost-effectively, helping clients make informed decisions before considering more complex interventions.

Not every inspection problem has an off-the-shelf answer.
