Our Rig Inspection Services (RIS) team has been piloting laser treatment for rust removal, as part of an ongoing painting campaign onboard Deepsea Yantai 🙌

💡 The helideck area can be challenging to access, while also requiring careful consideration of noise due to proximity to the accommodation module. This led the team to explore laser treatment as an alternative to more traditional methods such as needle scaling.

The result?

✔️ Reduced noise and vibration
✔️ Improved ergonomics
✔️ Same high-quality result
✔️ Significant time savings

Safety remains the priority. A dedicated 20-metre safety zone has been established, appropriate PPE is required, and everyone coming onboard is informed about the operation.

The pilot has shown promising results, and the team continues to explore how new methods can support safer and more efficient operations offshore. 💚

AI-driven knowledge at work 🤖⚙️

Together with master’s students from Høgskulen på Vestlandet HVL , we are exploring how AI, GraphRAG, and knowledge graphs can improve access to engineering knowledge and make past experience easier to reuse across projects.

By connecting information across historical engineering documentation, the solution supports smarter searches, improved efficiency, and stronger decision-making.

From the mountains to rope access work offshore 🧗‍♂️

Growing up in Romsdalen, the outdoors has always been a natural part of life for Roger Eidem. From an early age, he spent countless hours outside with his family, building a strong passion for nature and adventure.

What started with snowboarding and skiing gradually led him into steeper terrain. As the mountains got more demanding, climbing became a natural next step and soon turned into his biggest passion.

Since 2013, he has worked as a Rope Access Technician, turning his passion for climbing into a profession. In 2024, he joined Odfjell Technology and the RIS (Rig Inspection Services) team where he now applies his skills and experience every day. ⚙️

“I’ve always been drawn to steep terrain and climbing. What started as a hobby gradually became a bigger part of my life, and now I get to work with it, while still spending my spare time in the mountains.”

🌍 Odfjell Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ANT (Applied New Technologies) to deliver advanced plug and abandonment (P&A) solutions in Southeast Asia.

The agreement will see them working primarily together to deliver a next generation erosion tool for well P&A projects with Odfjell Technology offering deployment of ANT’s advanced wellANT nozzle head technology in conjunction with its rigless unit and fishing milling techniques.

Incorporating wellANT into Odfjell Technology’s services further increases the significant cost and time efficiencies that can be delivered over conventional methods to meet the evolving demands of P&A and intervention.

We’re pleased to announce the signing of a long term integrated services contract with ConocoPhillips in the North Sea 🙌 🌊

The contract covers platform drilling operations and maintenance services, tubular running services, well engineering, and well planning in Norway⚙️

Importantly, the contract also provides a strong foundation for our ambition to grow within the Permanent Plug & Abandonment (PP&A) market, with options for the provision of downhole equipment and integrated PP&A ex*****on.
