⚠️When Access, Structure and Lift Path Work Against You⚠️

Successful offshore lift planning involves more than selecting equipment with sufficient capacity.

Restricted access routes, structural steelwork, pipework, cable trays and existing equipment can all influence how a lift is planned and executed. In many cases, the challenge is not lifting the load itself but finding an arrangement that can safely operate within the available space and achieve the required lift path.

Understanding the physical constraints of the environment is just as important as understanding the load. Clearance, access, lift height and available lifting envelope can all influence equipment selection and the overall lifting strategy.

The most effective lifting solution is often the one that best fits the available lifting envelope while allowing the task to be completed safely and efficiently.

💪When a Low Headroom Solution Restores Progress 💪

An offshore gas turbine replacement project encountered a significant challenge when an existing gantry crane cradle was condemned during the planning phase.

The turbine still needed to be removed and replaced, but the lifting arrangement had to work within a restricted environment where available headroom was limited and a conventional solution was not practical.

To support the change-out, a 6-tonne low headroom air hoist and trolley was supplied on short-term rental. The equipment allowed the turbine replacement to proceed without unnecessary delay while making the most of the available lifting envelope within the work area.

💪 When a Condemned Crane Cradle Threatened a Turbine Change-Out 💪

Most offshore lifting challenges aren't caused by load capacity. In many restricted access environments, the real constraint is space between the beam and the load. Under deck projects, congested plant areas and confined maintenance spaces often demand a lifting arrangement that can maximise every millimetre of available lift height.

The challenge isn't lifting the load itself. It's achieving the required lift path within the available space.

That's why low headroom hoists and trolleys remain an important option for technically demanding lifting operations where conventional arrangements may not provide sufficient clearance.

At the beginning of April we welcomed a familiar face within the lifting industry, Hickinbottom, to . He’s joined our team in West Bromwich as an External Sales Executive and brings with him valuable experience, industry knowledge and customer relationships.

Offshore shutdown support needs more than a plan. It needs contingency.

In one caisson destruct operation, we supplied two 60-tonne pneumatic hoists together with a third standby unit prepared in case requirements changed during the work.

That additional contingency helped protect schedule integrity during a critical phase of the operation.

It is a strong example of how rental support adds value offshore — not only through lifting capacity, but through readiness when the job does not go exactly to plan.

Planned shutdown support is only part of the picture offshore. The real test often comes when the lifting requirement changes once work is already underway.
