The 1938 Southern Rhodesia Half Crown is a fascinating example of British Colonial coinage with a unique silver history.

What sets this issue apart is its high .925 sterling silver purity. This 1938 African coin was actually struck with a higher silver content than the coins being minted in Great Britain at the exact same time, as the UK had reduced its home coinage to just 50% silver. With a low mintage of only 400,000, many were melted down during WWII silver shortages, leaving very few choice survivors today.

In this 1-minute video, we explore the coin's technical specifications, its rare mintage, and the detailed reverse design featuring a crowned shield flanked by native wildlife, including the majestic Sable Antelope.

Collector Value
Depending on grade and condition, a genuine 1938 Southern Rhodesia Half Crown typically trades between Β£30–£75+ GBP, with uncleaned, high-grade examples commanding a premium.

If you collect high-purity silver, British Colonial coinage, or African numismatic history, this rare pre-war issue is an essential addition to your collection.
