JFD has provided Australia’s trusted and reliable submarine rescue system for more than 15 years.

This sovereign capability is on stand-by and “rescue ready” from our Australian headquarters in Perth to help save the crew of a disabled submarine anywhere in the world.

To ensure its ongoing effectiveness and efficiency, it’s imperative that it’s regularly put to the test in underwater exercises.

The piloted LR5 submersible is a key part of the rescue system as it dives down to attach onto a disabled submarine to extract the crew safely under pressure and bring them back to the oceans’s surface.

Recently, the LR5 successfully completed in-water training at Cockburn Sound, south of Perth, Western Australia conducting 15 dives over eight days with 42 hours of dive time.

A massive achievement that showcased the capability of the rescue system and allowed valuable training for our highly trained team of engineers and tradespeople.

Well done to everyone who participated - a great display of teamwork.

JFD Australia was pleased to welcome Vice Admiral Hideto Ito, Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force to our recently opened centre of excellence at Caringbah in Sydney.

He met with JFD Australia Chair Dr Allan duToit AM, JFD Australia Managing Director, Cathy Falkiner and Ryan Wilson, Manager, Submarine Solutions to learn more about our longstanding provision of Australia’s safe, trusted and proven submarine rescue system to the Royal Australian Navy, a sovereign capability on standby and “rescue ready” at just 12 hours’ notice to save the lives of submariners in the event that a submarine becomes disabled anywhere in the world.
