All our recent examples of vessel enablement featured an MDL Horizontal Lay System, and for a good reason - these compact packages enable efficient handling of "jewellery" which is a common feature on dynamic cables and SURF deployed in the water column.
They integrate with our wide range of tensioners, selected for the product specification, type of operation - be it installation or retrieval - and sea-state conditions, which means they are adaptable for shallow waters (e.g. for floating offshore wind) and deep waters - such as those observed in APAC.

This is where we are with today's as our spread has been demobbed in Singapore from a deepwater cable lay project - but not for long, as it is soon heading over to Australia for its next scope.

Demonstrating the cross-sector applicability of our solutions, we are heading back to Rio for the Offshore Support Journal Conference where our vessel expert Inger-Louise Molver will present “Rethinking Flexlay: smarter assets, smarter installs.”

Following her presentation at Floating Offshore Wind in Aberdeen last week, the discussion now moves to Brazil’s offshore vessel market and its challenges around deepwater SURF installation and decommissioning.

In Rio, Inger-Louise will explore how modular handling equipment can unlock installation capacity on suitable, locally-available vessels, helping operators manage vessel constraints, reduce costs and deliver a wider range of offshore scopes. We're back at the P&J Live in Aberdeen for Floating Offshore Wind 2026. With the doors now open until 5pm tomorrow, we expect a lot of conversations on our stand D44 about cable and mooring handling, vessel enablement and port requirements, all to identify the most efficient routes towards commercialising - in line with this year's theme of "The critical path ahead".

We’re showcasing examples of our offshore and onshore expertise, from engineering and equipment integration to installation support, transpooling and quayside operations. You'll be able to get the latest on Peterhead Energy Service Base as well as our recently completed INTOG project involving a FOWT installation in the North Sea...

As always, we'll keep the conversation flowing with a personalised brew, handmade by our on-stand barista - the best in the business, naturally.

This comes from Ana's presentation at ROG.e, demonstrating that every challenge has a solution - with the right engineering approach.
In her talk, Ana spoke about MDL’s Mero PRM scope in Brazil – a first-of-its-kind operation involving the simultaneous installation of five lines from a single reel. On this scope, the back-deck arrangement placed very specific demands on the handling equipment, further increasing the scope's complexity - but our engineering team's Ingenious Instinct kicked in, to develop a new W-shaped tensioner pad.

It’s a perfect example of innovation in the form of technology improvement rather than creating something new from scratch... and a great preamble to the next episode of MDL Voices, coming out this Wednesday.
