We are thrilled to have received such positive feedback from attendees of our recent Road Traffic Investigations Awareness Webinar.

Designed specifically for Road Traffic Investigators and Submissions Teams, this session showcased how Marks and Traces analysis can add evidential value to road traffic collision investigations. Using case examples, our experts demonstrated how marks commonly encountered at collision scenes, alongside trace evidence such as glass, paint and fibres, can provide meaningful forensic links.

Last week, one of our expert forensic scientists, Andrew McDonald, appeared on Channel 5’s Forensics: Murder Case following the investigation of the unsolved 1983 murder of George Murdoch in Aberdeen.

During the interview, Andrew shared insight into his work using Massively Parallel Sequencing to improve DNA evidence from the investigation. This work was vital for enabling a familial DNA search, a significant breakthrough in efforts to help police identify new leads in this decades-old case.

Cellmark are incredibly proud to support work that helps breathe new life into cold cases and bring hope to families still waiting for answers.

🔍 Who stole the trophies?! 🏆

On 15th July, our Education Project Group delivered our ‘Whodunnit?!’ forensic science workshop to Dunmore Primary School in Abingdon, and Year 6 stepped up as young forensic scientists!

The case? A shocking theft - every trophy had vanished from the school's reception display cabinet! Suspicion quickly fell on three key staff members: the Caretaker, the Fun Kids’ Club Manager and the Reception Manager.

Suited up in PPE, the children took part in lots of fun, hands-on activities and then moved on to solve the crime of the missing trophies! After a few false starts, the children cracked the case and correctly guessed that the Reception Manager was the guilty party! We received lots of lovely feedback from the children and it was great to see that we have inspired the next generation of forensic scientists.

Two weeks on and we are still reflecting on the incredible day that was Cellmark's Specialist Forensic Services Conference.

Bringing together investigators, prosecutors and forensic scientists, the event was a great reminder of what can be achieved when we work together across organisations and forensic disciplines.

Thank you for helping make Cellmark’s SFS Conference a success, here’s to continuing the dialogue to advance investigations.

Yesterday Cellmark hosted its Specialist Forensic Services Conference against the backdrop of Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The focus for the day was how collaboration between investigators, prosecutors and forensic scientists can uncover forensic potential to improve investigation outcomes.

We had a fantastic day and we thank everyone that attended. We hope you found the day’s presentations and panel valuable and made some useful connections.

Special thanks must also go to our speakers DCI Cheryl Hughes, Professor Lorna Dawson, Dr Mark Spencer, Detective Superintendent Ian Hussey, Dr Matt Cieka and our Specialist Forensic Services Team.

A few of our team recently visited Ladygrove Park Primary School in Didcot to deliver our ‘Whodunnit?!’ workshop to their Year 6s. The teachers’ mugs were stolen from their desks and the children, with the help of our forensic scientists, solved the crime by looking at fingerprints, toolmarks and footwear marks.

Students dressed up in PPE and took part in some other fun activities all whilst learning about forensic science. The children really enjoyed the sessions and we received a lovely thank you card from them. We hope to have inspired some forensic scientists of the future!
