If walls could talk what would they say.

Here’s a few photos from the site of one of our new projects in north Northumberland.

Layers of peeling paint, weathered stone, aged timber and rusted ironwork — every surface carrying its own story. There’s something incredibly inspiring about the texture, craftsmanship and colour found in buildings that have been allowed to age naturally.

We are working on this house on the edge of Alnmouth that we're lucky enough to be able to see from our office on this glorious day!

Sometimes the best design moves are the ones you don’t notice at first.

Planners weren’t receptive to the idea of a traditional dormer here, so we took a different approach—creating a hidden inset balcony tucked within the roof. From the street, it’s barely visible, keeping the original character of the house intact.

Step inside though, and it opens up to incredible views over Alnmouth beach. A quiet intervention that gives the client something really special, without shouting about it.

This project in Eglingham saw the sensitive conversion of a former walled courtyard into a beautiful additional bedroom and en-suite within the Grade II listed building — carefully balancing heritage significance with modern living.

Working within historic fabric always demands a light touch, and this scheme preserves the character and setting of the original structure while giving it a new lease of life.

A huge thank you to Chris McCann Builders and all of the sub-contractors for the exceptional craftsmanship throughout — attention to detail like this is what makes these projects truly stand out.

We are delighted to share that we have gained planning consent for the conversion of this existing garage into a self-contained annexe.

By reusing the structure, the proposal supports sustainable development, reduces material waste, and gives new life to an underutilised space. The design focuses on natural light, efficient of space, and a sensitive external appearance to sit comfortably within its setting.

Looking forward to seeing this one come to life on site.

We have recently been asked by a client, what are the benefits of 3-Dimensional modelling during the early stages of a design project?

Well, using 3D modelling at the concept stage allows us to quickly test ideas, explore massing and understand how a building will sit within its surroundings. Instead of imagining a design from plans alone, 3D modelling allows you to immediately see the form, scale and spatial relationships of a project. The images here are an example of what you would expect to receive from us.

3D modelling also helps us study daylight, views and proportions early in the process, allowing the design to evolve in a more informed way. By visualising ideas in three dimensions from the outset, we can refine concepts faster, communicate design intent more clearly, and it will help you make informed decisions about your project.

Here’s a throwback to a project completed in Bamburgh, the dwelling which was formerly a coach house had fabulous panoramic views towards the Castle. As part of the design process we undertook detailed historical research and uncovered photographic evidence which confirmed the arch openings were a later addition and the original openings were square and much larger. We used this evidence to inform our design proposal to introduce floor to ceiling glazing that both respected the buildings historic form and created a visual link.

We’re excited to see this bespoke new home entering its final stages on site. The design vision is now becoming reality — clean lines, carefully framed views, and beautifully crafted detailing coming together just as intended.

From early concept sketches through to construction, it’s always rewarding to reach this point in the journey. A huge thank you to the contractor and wider team for their precision and collaboration in bringing this home to life.

We look forward to sharing the finished result soon.

It’s always great to see the roof being constructed as it marks the pivotal moment where works to the inside can commence and the internal space can finally be realised as the proposed design.

The extension interprets the form and arrangement of the original stone cottage, making an extension which feels like it has always been part of its surroundings.

The extension will create a new kitchen, dining and living area that reclaims wasted external space, with the new space enjoying views out over the garden whilst also creating a light and airy open plan area with large openings on three elevations.
