As a plasterer you always come up against challenges. A recent job i encounterd. When working with Artex ceilings that have been chalked or have a chalky wash, skimming directly onto the surface can cause the plaster to fail due to poor adhesion.
Using a simple stabilizer solution works really well. A stabilizing solution will help by sealing the chalky surface and binding it all together ensuring that the plaster bonds properly. This prevents issues like peeling or cracking that can occur when skimming onto a porous or unstable surface.
Overboarding is another option, but using stabilizer is more efficient and cost-effective.
