Got a roof that isn’t one simple shape? ☀️

Plenty of homes in Northern Ireland have L-shaped roofs, extensions or skylights, and many people assume that rules solar out. This home proves otherwise.

With two roof sections to work with, we fitted panels across both, working neatly around the roof windows so they still let in plenty of light. Using more than one section can also mean more space for panels, and if the sections face different directions, it can spread generation across more of the day.

South isn’t the only way. ☀️

Most people think solar only works on a south-facing roof. But east–west roofs can work really well too.

Here’s why: east-facing panels catch the sun as it rises, and west-facing panels catch it as it sets. Between them, your system generates from morning to evening, not just around midday.

That timing matters. Compared with a south-facing roof, east–west can give you more power at breakfast and teatime, when most homes use the most electricity.

Per panel, east or west produces a little less than south. But with panels on both sides of the roof, you can often fit a bigger system and generate for longer across the day.

What if your solar panels earned more than your electricity bill? ☀️

For one of our customers, they did, five months in a row.

Before solar, they were paying around £1,500 a year for electricity. Between November 2025 and October 2026, their total cost came to just £212.98 after export payments.

From April to August, their export payments were bigger than their bill every month, leaving them £74.56 in credit across those five months. August alone was £40.57 in credit.

Winter months still brought bills, with January the highest at £56.02. But across the whole year, the difference is clear.
