GES Group

GES Group GES Group (Grants Electrical Services Ltd) is a leading Electrical and Mechanical Engineering company

Established over 40 years as Grants Electrical Services (NI) Ltd., we have grown into GES Group, a leading Electrical and Mechanical Engineering company, serving customers throughout Ireland, the UK and beyond. We respond quickly to Industry's ever-changing demands and needs, while offering geographic coverage to many of our customers. Traditionally AC/DC motor rewind and re-manufacture specialist

s, we have developed our portfolio as a market leader to now provide an extensive range of technically advanced products and services. We are an essential element in maintaining and strengthening the backbone of the power generation, industrial, manufacturing, and agri-structure of Ireland and the UK. We are the silent partner to Industry and the economy, working with a wide variety of businesses and plant, from the smallest pumps to the largest pumping stations, from small milk parlors to the largest dairy processing facilities, ensuring all electrical and mechanical equipment required to keep infrastructure operational is available 365 days a year. We pride ourselves on building strong partnerships with customers, providing power and energy solutions for small local businesses, as well as large multi-nationals across a diverse range of industries, such as: Plastic Manufacturers, AD Plants, Wind Farms, Food & Drink Manufacturers, Engineering Specialists, Ship & Aerospace Manufacturing, Water Treatment Facilities, Power Stations, etc. The most basic plant and machinery, and the most advanced communication networking systems, all rely on electricity. If this is not available, the resulting power failure renders a business entirely un-operational. Today, almost all business functions are dependent on a steadfast and clean electrical supply - one that is well designed, maintained, automated & controlled, energy efficient, and mechanically vibration-free. At GES Group, we uniquely specialise in each of these aspects, which combine to build strong and reliable electrical and mechanical power systems. Using a holistic approach, we provide for all of our customer needs in-house. For more information, or to speak to one of our team, call us on: 02825 656406, or email: [email protected].

βš™οΈ Common Causes of Motor Failure

Unexpected motor failures can lead to costly downtime, but many are preventable.
The most common causes include:
πŸ”Ή Bearing failure
πŸ”Ή Overheating
πŸ”Ή Electrical faults
πŸ”Ή Contamination from dust or moisture
πŸ”Ή Misalignment and excessive vibration

Regular inspections and condition monitoring can identify problems early, helping to extend the life of your equipment and avoid unplanned breakdowns.
At GES Group, we help businesses keep their motors running efficiently through maintenance, repairs and condition monitoring.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Christopher McGookin 🌟

Christopher joined GES Group at the end of last year as an Electrical Estimator, ⚑ although somehow it already feels like he’s been here for years.
He settled into the team fairly quickly and has become well known for winding up a select few people in the office. We won’t name names, but they’ll know rightly. 😏

Outside of work, Christopher is a keen golfer β›³ and tells us he plays off a handicap of 4. A very respectable number, although certain members of the team are still waiting on sufficient evidence before accepting this as fact πŸ‘€

When he’s not on the golf course, Christopher enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦β€πŸ‘¦. Weekends are rarely quiet in the McGookin household, with Christopher and the family usually away somewhere, finding something to do and keeping the boys entertained πŸš—.

He’s also no stranger to a holiday, giving Judith Chalmers a run for her money. We’re never quite sure when or where he’ll be jetting off to next.β˜€οΈβœˆοΈπŸ˜‚

It’s great to have Christopher as part of the GES Group team πŸ™Œ He’s fitted in from day one, brings plenty of experience to the role and, more importantly, is always up for a bit of craic.

We’ll give him the benefit of the doubt on the handicap... for now. β›³πŸ˜‚

Now the dust has settled on another year of A-level and GCSE results, attention is turning from grades to the bigger question.
What comes next?

At GES Group, we know there is more than one route into a successful career.
Apprenticeships and further education play an important role in our industry, giving young people the opportunity to gain qualifications while developing practical skills and real workplace experience.

πŸ“’But those opportunities only exist if employers create them.
As businesses, we need to invest in the next generation, take on apprentices and give them the experience and support they need to build lasting careers.

And for anyone hoping to secure an apprenticeship for September 2027, the work starts now. Research employers, look for work experience, attend open days, build your CV and start getting to know the industry you want to be part of.
At GES Group, we're proud to play our part in developing future talent and building the skills our industry needs.

And if you're an employer thinking about taking on apprentices but aren't sure where to start, reach out to Maeve Cunning. It's something she's incredibly passionate about, and she'll be more than happy to share her experience and offer some support.

The next generation is out there. Let's give them the opportunities to get started.

⚽ At GES, we look after our own!

Our colleague Nigel recently underwent surgery and had a fantastic experience using Benenden Health, one of the benefits we’re delighted to provide to our employees.

Of course, this wasn’t just any patient… Nigel is something of a Ballymena footballing legend! So getting him patched up, back on his feet and fit for action was clearly a matter of great importance. We need him performing at GES and back to full fitness! πŸ˜‚βš½

On a more serious note, looking after our employees and their wellbeing is hugely important to us at GES. Providing Benenden private healthcare gives our team additional support and peace of mind when they need it most.

Nigel had a really positive experience throughout his treatment and recovery, and it’s great to see one of our employee benefits making a genuine difference.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Nigel. GES needs you fit and healthy… although Wednesday night football might have to wait a little longer! πŸ’ͺ⚽

πŸ”§ Putting the balancing skills to work

Josh, one of our Electrical Apprentices here at GES Group, has recently gained his qualification in balancing and has been taking real ownership of this area of work over the last few months.

Working closely with Tim Magill, Workshop Supervisor, Josh has been building his hands-on experience as Tim gradually hands over more of the balancing work to him.

He’s currently working on four new rotors for a manufacturing customer, with each one being specifically fabricated to suit the customer’s individual requirements.
Once the manufacturing is complete, Josh carries out the dynamic balancing process, identifying and correcting any imbalance to ensure each rotor is running smoothly and within the required tolerances before it leaves the workshop.

Great to see skills and knowledge being passed on in the workshop, and Josh getting stuck in and making the work his own. πŸ‘Œ

πŸ”¦ EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT πŸ”¦
This week's spotlight is on Tiarnan Heron πŸ‘βš‘

Tiarnan is heading into his final year as an Electrical Installation Apprentice, which means he's only one step away from becoming a fully qualified Electrical Installation Engineer! πŸ’ͺ⚑

Over the last few years, he's grafted his way through a wide range of projects across all of GES Group's Operations departments, picking up plenty of experience along the way. Safe to say, he's seen a bit of everything! πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸ”§

When he's not on site, you'll probably find him in the boxing gym πŸ₯Š, planning his next lads' holiday πŸ»β˜€οΈ, or doing what he does best... stirring the pot in the workshop just to get Rab, our Workshop Supervisor, wound up. πŸ˜… (We reckon it's become one of his favourite hobbies!)

Fair play to Tiarnan on everything he's achieved so far. The finish line is in sight, and we can't wait to see him qualify next year! πŸ‘βš‘
Give him a like and wish him luck for his final year! πŸ€πŸ™Œ

πŸ’™ Looking After Our Greatest Asset – Our People πŸ’™

At GES Group, we're proud to continue our partnership with Cancer Focus Northern Ireland, with their fantastic Health Improvement & Wellbeing Service returning to both our Mallusk and Ballymena sites throughout August and September.

🚐 The Cancer Focus Wellbeing Van offers every member of our team the opportunity to have a free health MOT, receive practical wellbeing advice, and speak confidentially to experienced professionals about any health concerns they may have.

We know that life gets busy, and it's often easy to put our own health to the bottom of the list. By bringing these services directly into the workplace, we're making it easier for our people to take a few moments to check in on themselves.

At GES Group, we believe that looking after our people goes far beyond the workplace. Whether it's encouraging early conversations, promoting healthier lifestyles, or simply reminding someone that their wellbeing matters, these small steps can make a big difference.

A huge thank you to Cancer Focus NI for continuing to support our team and helping us create a healthier workplace for everyone. Together, we're encouraging our people to take that first step because when it comes to your health, prevention and early action really do matter. πŸ’™

πŸ”¦ Employee Spotlight – Niall Byers ⚑

This week we're shining the spotlight on Niall Byers, one of our first-year Electrical Installation Apprentices! πŸ‘
Niall has been spending most of his time in our Ballymena Panel Workshop, learning the ropes and getting stuck into building control panels. When the job calls for it, he's just as happy heading out on site to gain hands-on experience too. πŸ’ͺ

One thing about Niall... if there's work to be done, he's always willing to stay behind, put in the extra hours and lend a hand wherever it's needed. That attitude doesn't go unnoticed! πŸ‘Œ

Outside of work, Niall plays hurling for Ballycran GAA, so it's no surprise he brings the same commitment and willingness to get stuck in when he's on the job. πŸ‘βš‘

Great to have you on the team, Niall! Keep up the good work, we're looking forward to seeing your journey continue. βš‘πŸ’™
