We've completed the decarbonisation of the Temperate House and Evolution House at Kew Gardens, replacing traditional gas and oil heating systems with a new low-carbon solution.

Home to the world's largest surviving Victorian glasshouse, Kew welcomes more than 2.2 million visitors each year and remained fully operational throughout the works.

As Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, Alternative Heat delivered new HV infrastructure using innovative Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) techniques, minimising disruption across the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Part-funded through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, delivered by Salix, the project supports Kew's ambition to become climate positive by 2030.

The project was formally marked by the opening of the Stable Yard Energy Centre, bringing together Kew Gardens, Salix, project consultants and delivery partners to celebrate this important milestone.

We were delighted to visit Donard School and present a donation to support 29 pupils travelling to Disneyland Paris.

Donard School provides a caring and supportive environment for children with severe and profound learning difficulties, and it was a privilege to learn more about the outstanding work carried out by staff every day to support and empower their pupils.

At Alternative Heat, we are proud to support opportunities that create special experiences and lasting memories for young people. We hope our contribution helps make this magical trip even more memorable.

Bridging the gap between the classroom and the workplace is essential if we're to inspire the next generation of engineers, tradespeople and innovators.

We are proud to be the first of the company’s to host students as part of the 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲, supported by the The James Kane Foundation. Welcoming 28 students from St Malachy's High School Castlewellan Community, the day provided hands-on insight into engineering, manufacturing and sustainable energy careers.

As 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝘆𝗻𝗲𝘀 commented, "What stood out most was the culture. Every member of staff was welcoming, approachable and passionate about their work. They didn't just showcase their company; they invested in our young people."

💛 £3,800 Raised for Cancer Fund for Children 💛

We were delighted to welcome Mary Callan, Community Champion from Cancer Fund for Children, to our offices to receive a cheque following our recent AH v Kane Charity Event.

Thanks to everyone who took part, donated, supported and cheered us on, we raised an incredible £3,800 for this fantastic charity.

Every contribution will help Cancer Fund for Children continue to support children, young people and families facing the challenges of cancer.

Three Wexford schools are now equipped with new biomass heating installations as part of the 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰.

The projects at:
📌𝗘𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 – 300kW
📌𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 – 230kW
📌𝗦𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 – 210kW
provide a combined 740kW of biomass heating capacity, with each site incorporating a 14-tonne fuel storage solution.

The works were planned around school holiday periods to minimise disruption, with the projects now progressing towards final integrated system testing, client witnessing and handover.

The new systems are designed to use biomass wood pellets for efficient heating, helping to reduce reliance on gas-fired boilers and support wider decarbonisation efforts.

The fuel stores used Alternative Heat’s framing system with external cladding designed to complement the biomass plantrooms.

The projects form part of a 15-year local energy supply contract, with ongoing planned and reactive maintenance and spare parts provision included as part of the longer-term arrangement.

Another project delivering practical, lower-carbon heating infrastructure for schools across Wexford.

🏌️The 6th Annual AH Ryder Cup

32 golfers took to the fairways for the final Golf Society event of the year, with Head Office going head-to-head with The Rest of the World.

Head Office faced a combined team made up of players from Birmingham, Scotland, Amsterdam, Dublin and Dundalk — one office versus six regions, and they still managed to get the job done! 😆

There were Nearest the Pin challenges, plenty of competitive banter, a few questionable golf shots, and no doubt a few claims of, “that’s the best I’ve hit it all year!”

After a great day on the course, Head Office came out on top and lifted the Ryder Cup trophy. 🏆

A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it such an enjoyable end to the golfing year.

⚽🏆 𝗔 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗢𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵

A few weeks ago, colleagues from Alternative Heat and Kane Group came together for the fifth annual charity football match ⚽, held in memory of Siobhan McCann and Gerard McAlinden, continuing a fantastic tradition of friendly rivalry, teamwork and fundraising.
Alternative Heat emerged as convincing 9-2 winners, reclaiming the bragging rights and moving into a 3-2 lead in the overall series.

Despite rumours of transfer activity, we're pleased to confirm no players were bought, loaned in, or signed on deadline day. The squad was entirely home-grown, although a few performances may have attracted interest from clubs higher up the footballing pyramid! 👀

A special mention goes to Cathan Devlin, whose standout performance earned him a well-deserved Man of the Match award.

More importantly than the result, the day brought colleagues, family and friends together to remember our colleagues we lost and support a worthy cause. We are delighted to have raised over £2,622 so far, for Cancer Fund for Children

A huge thank you to everyone who played, supported and donated to make the day such a success.

We’ve officially launched our new Apprentice & Placement Development Programme!

We kicked things off by bringing everyone together for an opening session, giving our apprentices and placement students the chance to learn more about what’s ahead, meet the people supporting them and get to know each other.

With their welcome folders in hand (and a few snacks!), they’re now ready to get started.

We’re excited to see where the journey takes them! 👏

Alternative Heat recently welcomed Ronan Kelly, CEO of Digital Infrastructure Ireland, to our manufacturing and assembly facility on Coe’s Road, Dundalk, to meet members of our team and get a closer look at the work supporting the mission critical digital infrastructure market.

Our Dundalk facility is one of Alternative Heat’s regional operations, supporting both home-grown Irish clients and customers across Europe with the manufacture and assembly of offsite MEP solutions.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the growth of the mission critical digital infrastructure market, the importance of strong local supply chains and the role of sustainable innovation in meeting the demands of an increasingly data-driven economy.

During the visit, we gave Ronan a first-hand look at the offsite MEP solutions taking shape in Dundalk, showcasing how our manufacturing capability supports the closed-loop systems being delivered across projects throughout Europe.
