Today marks the start of Scottish Food & Drink September, a month-long celebration of the people, products and produce that make Scotland’s food and drink sector so special.

This year's theme is 'Every bite tells a story'.

At Hamlyns of Scotland, our story starts with Scottish oats, grown on Scottish farms and milled at our oat mill in Banffshire.

We absolutely love marzipan, but it’s one of those ingredients that most of us only use over the festive season.

So when two-time World Porridge Making Champion Lisa Williams sent us her recipe for marzipan flapjacks, we couldn’t wait to try it.

Lisa says that these as her favourite flapjacks ever and we have to agree! She even made them for Jay Rayner when she went to a recording of Radio 4’s ‘Kitchen Cabinet’.

Golden, chewy and packed with oats and marzipan, they’re impossible to resist if you’re a fellow marzipan lover!

Today is International Dog Day so we’ve written a blog answering something we’re asked a lot...can dogs eat porridge? 🐶🥣

For most healthy dogs, the answer is yes.

Plain oats can be enjoyed by dogs in moderation and will provide carbohydrates, fibre and a range of useful nutrients.

The best option for dogs is plain porridge made with oats and water, without salt, sugar, syrup or other toppings.

They’re also great for homemade dog treats.

The town centre will be buzzing throughout the afternoon with local food and drink producers, vendors, food vans, and artisan makers.

Make sure you stop by the Garioch Community Kitchen stand to find out more about the fantastic work they do – and make sure you try their delicious oat muffins made with Hamlyns Porridge Oats! 😋

You could even take on the Buttery Challenge: a 60-second eating contest with a cash prize up for grabs!

National Plum Day is on Sunday, and if you have some plums at home, we think you'll love this recipe 💜

These plum and cinnamon oat crumble muffins are packed with juicy chopped plums and warm cinnamon, then finished with a crumble topping made with Hamlyns Scottish Porridge Oats, butter and Demerara sugar.

If you REALLY love cinnamon, you could add some extra into the crumble topping too.

They’re quick to make and delicious freshly baked with a cup of tea, or served warm for dessert with cream or custard.

🎬 Did you spot our Scottish Porridge Oats in Jason Statham's latest movie, Shelter?

We were very excited when the production team contacted us last year to ask if we could supply some porridge for filming.

The film begins with Statham’s character, Michael Mason, holed up in a lighthouse on a remote Scottish island.

You can spot Hamlyns Scottish Porridge Oats in Michael’s kitchen, and even watch his porridge-loving character tucking into a bowl! 🥣
