The Client chose to self-build the garden room we supplied to keep costs down as well as executing their own decorating.

We went back to visit once the garden room was built and interrupted their DIY for some photos & videos.

This weekend saw Brava Groundworks in Hertford, delivering results for our Client who had sodden lawns and constant flooding on his ground floor patio area.

After new build properties went up behind his home, we suspect a spring diversion occurred which turned his beautiful garden into a bog.

The garden had existing land drains, likely more than 20 years old which had unfortunately become inoperative due to the invasion of tree roots, causing blockage and collapse at multiple points and the surrounding membrane becoming saturated over time.

Utilising the existing outflow pipe to avoid destroying one of the Client’s stone planters was challenging, however we achieved this by pushing new, solid pipe through the old 100mm land drain and connected solid pipe incorporating a rodding eye through the planters and up through the first level to prevent the existing trees from penetrating the network again in the near future.

From solid pipe on the first level, land drains were then installed up to the second level lawn where the source of flooding was found. Eventually the water began to recede, with our newly installed drain network working perfectly, drawing what is crystal clear water out of the saturated soil and down to the outfall, into the existing mains drainage connection.

The Client was relieved and after many years of frustration with continuous flooding, he can now enjoy his garden without having to swim to his table and chairs!

After a sunny weekend in Cranfield, Brava Groundworks completed a concrete base ready for the installation of the Dominator Composite Garden Office from Dunster House Ltd which is sure to transform our Client’s home working conditions.

Due to the clay rich, sodden earth, we had to dig deeper than planned, installing a higher compacted hardcore substrate on top of the geotextile membrane, followed by shuttering, 1200 guage DPM and concrete with float finish.

Outstanding works at this property include a utilities trench from the rear of the house to the rear of the garden office and the installation of two conduit runs to facilitate the installation of power and network to the office.

Our electrical team are standing by, once the garden office is built, to install power and network with minimal disruption to the Client’s living situation as well as all first and second fix electrics within and on the exterior of the office. All, of course, tested and certificated on completion.

On leaving the Client’s home this afternoon, we ensured all work areas were cleaned and jet washed with materials stored safely away, leaving a neat and tidy garden and driveway.

More updates to follow, as the garden office and electrical installation take place.

Another stunning outdoor transformation completed by Brava Groundworks 🔥

This beautiful Silver Travertine porcelain patio has completely modernised the space while keeping a timeless natural stone look. The large-format porcelain slabs create a clean, premium finish with minimal maintenance and excellent durability all year round.

As with every project, the groundwork beneath the surface is just as important. We installed ACO drainage channels to properly manage surface water, feeding into a dedicated sub-surface soakaway system to help prevent standing water and reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. We also incorporated a 100mm shingle border between the patio and the property to maintain airflow and prevent moisture bridging against the external walls — an essential detail for protecting the property and ensuring long-term performance of the installation.

We love these fence panels! 😍

Check out some photos we’ve dug up from this enabling project on London’s wealthiest road!

Sandwiched between diplomatic fortresses, this private home underwent a complete multimillion pound refurbishment, including the requirement for additional utilities to be installed - we got the call!

Littered with centuries-old limes and sycamores from the Victorian era and heavily protected by Tree Preservation Orders, excavating this site was surgical and labour intensive. Roots up to 18 inches thick crossed below the existing concrete walkway and every dig revealed another root to carefully isolate, ensuring there was no damage to them.

This utilities trench went far deeper than planned to avoid tree roots and other structural concrete supporting the existing building and its basement so conduit and pipework could be laid. Care was taken to avoid unnecessary delays with the network of electrical cables and conduit all left intact after excavation and some tricky undermining while ensuring the large brickwork gate posts remained stable as well as the public pavement above.

This one was a bit of a change and we do enjoy a challenge! Another fast turnaround from Brava Groundworks after finishing these recent works for a garage conversion in Bedfordshire.

One of the existing garages, that was partially demolished and rebuilt had an existing concrete floor that required excavation due to its condition and to accommodate the correct build-up depth for our install.

This conversion was to be a utility room which required the installation of new foul water drainage out and fresh water mains in, installed and connected for the client to allow for two washing machines and a sink.

After excavation, and the mains utilities were installed, preparations were made for the DPM, followed by perimeter insulation, floor insulation, slip membrane and 75mm screed. All installed to be compliant with Part L and Part C of the code which was signed off without question.

Other works including cutting through the brickwork into the adjoining kitchen to prepare for the internal double doors were provided as well as taking up the block paving driveway to connect new foul water drainage and install a new fresh water main were completed and all external spaces reinstated and cleaned.

Our Client was very happy with the service and quality of works and Craig’s review can be found on our FB page and on Google.
