An industrial storage bunker of biomass and woodchips can look perfectly stable on the surface, reading at normal room temperature.

But deep at the core, biological oxidation can silently raise the internal temperature to a highly dangerous 90°C. Because the surrounding material acts as an incredible insulator, this heat becomes trapped, slowly building until spontaneous combustion occurs from the inside out.

Automated thermal monitoring systems are one of the most effective solutions. Fixed cameras continuously scan the surface of these vast storage piles, detecting the incredibly subtle heat pathways as the internal temperatures vent to the surface.

Monitoring fuel storage levels without the hazardous manual checks.

The Old Way: You rely on manual dipping, mechanical level indicators, or shutting down operations for internal inspections. It is hazardous, wildly inefficient, and exposes your staff to unnecessary safety risks and fumes.

The New Way: Thermal imaging offers a non-contact, precise method. Because liquid fuel and the air above it absorb and dissipate heat at different rates, a thermal camera easily detects the resulting temperature gradient right through the solid tank wall.

Our technicians visually pinpoint the exact liquid levels and spot hidden sludge build-up from the outside. You get an accurate, instant overview of your fuel reserves without ever opening a valve, halting operations, or risking your team.

Catching mechanical friction before the motor seizes.

You are doing your morning floor walk. A critical conveyor motor sounds slightly louder than it did yesterday, but visually, it looks perfectly fine. Do you log it for later, or stop the line?

You grab a thermal camera.

Mechanical friction is the ultimate enemy of longevity, generating distinct heat signatures as bearings misalign or lubrication fails. By comparing like-for-like assets, you eliminate the guesswork. If our thermal survey shows that the bearing is running 15 degrees hotter than its identical counterpart on the same line, you have concrete proof that targeted maintenance is required today, long before the component physically breaks.

Spontaneous combustion is a massive, highly dangerous threat for facilities storing bulk biomass, woodchips, or recycled waste. As the organic material at the centre of the pile breaks down, it generates intense, trapped heat.

The terrifying part? By the time you can actually see smoke or flames on the surface, a deep-seated fire is already well underway and incredibly difficult to extinguish.

We install fixed, automated thermal imaging systems that monitor these massive storage bunkers 24/7. Our cameras detect those hidden, internal temperature spikes as they rise to the surface, triggering an automatic alarm long before spontaneous combustion occurs.

Precision and reliability are the foundation of a safe facility.

When conducting high-stakes commercial surveys, having absolute confidence in your data is critical. Success for Engineering Managers tracking historical trends or Level 3 Thermographers diagnosing electrical faults hinges on the right methodology and equipment.

Every maintenance professional relies on a proven system to ensure their site inspections are flawless and compliant. We want to hear from the experts in our network about what drives your site efficiency.

For Engineering Managers, unexpected downtime is a headache. But a fire on the production line? That is a disaster.

A scenario we help prevent all the time involves high-risk industrial zones, like battery production lines or waste bunkers, where temperatures can spike suddenly. Manual checks just aren't fast enough to catch them.

Our automated, fixed thermal imaging systems are designed to continuously monitor these critical assets. The software automatically triggers an alarm the exact second a temperature crosses a safe threshold, long before a fire ever starts.

Proactive issue detection means you avoid production delays and, most importantly, keep your team completely safe.

How is your facility currently monitoring its most critical fire-risk zones?

We see this scenario all the time: a field technician is on-site conducting a critical electrical survey, but their uncalibrated camera is reading a few degrees off. It might not sound like a big deal, but in predictive maintenance, missing a subtle temperature spike by a few degrees can mean missing an early-stage fire risk entirely.

At Thermascan, our calibration lab ensures your FLIR cameras are reading temperatures down to the exact decimal. For Engineering Managers relying on accurate data to prevent costly, unexpected downtime, extreme accuracy isn't a luxury it's a strict requirement.

We don't just supply the tools; we make sure they stay sharp.

Technicians, how frequently does your facility send equipment in for professional calibration? Let us know below!

Did you know the colours on a thermal camera aren't just for show?

If you’ve ever used a thermal camera, you’ve probably seen the classic "Ironbow" (orange and purple) colours. But field technicians know that choosing the right palette changes everything!

• Ironbow/Rainbow: Great for general building and electrical maintenance to show heat distribution.
• White Hot: Perfect for high-contrast situations, like spotting mechanical friction.
• Isotherm: Highlights only the temperatures that cross a specific danger threshold. Crucial for early fire detection!

Field operators: Which palette is your go-to on a standard inspection?
