It's an exciting time to be joining us in Belfast, and we're recruiting nine graduates as we build the team and capability to deliver Fleet Solid Support and what comes after it.

The roles cover:

⚙️ Production Engineering. Working from drawings and 3D models to help determine how a ship gets built, including time on the shopfloor.

🧾 Production Planning. Work orders, material availability checks and scheduling using SAP.

📈 Business Management Office. Tracking cost, risk and performance across major programmes.

More than £98.5m is going into the yard - a mechanised panel line, robotic cutting equipment, an expanded fabrication hall - part of £157m across Navantia UK's four sites. And we're building the three Fleet Solid Support ships for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, 39,000 tonnes each, the biggest ships built here in decades.

You'll be working on ships that form the backbone of the Royal Navy.

We'll train you, so previous shipbuilding experience isn't needed.

We're pleased to have secured our largest cruise ship revitalisation project since becoming part of Navantia UK.

The project will see us welcome Margaritaville at Sea's new flagship, Beachcomber, to Belfast, further strengthening the city's position as a leading destination for cruise ship repair and revitalisation.

Expected to generate approximately £40 million for the Belfast region, the project will support our workforce, local suppliers and the wider maritime economy.

Our team delivered the successful revitalisation of Islander in 2024 and we're pleased to be working with the cruise line once again. Minas Miliaris, Chief Maritime Officer at Margaritaville at Sea, said: "Their work on Islander demonstrated the quality, craftsmanship and expertise required for a project of this scale, giving us the confidence to return as we prepare Beachcomber for its global debut in 2027."

Shipbuilder Harland & Wolff has nabbed its biggest cruise ship refurb for Belfast since the business was bought over last year.

Harland & Wolff featured on yesterday's Broadcasting House on BBC Radio 4.

Chris Page visited the yard to see the transformation under way as part of the £98.5m investment by Navantia UK, from the restoration of Samson and Goliath to the 343 apprentices now training across the company. On site, he spoke with Peter Rusk, Programme Manager for the recapitalisation, and Brian Welsh, Apprentice Training Manager.

Paddy O'Connell was also joined by our Business Development Director, Steve Murdoch, who explained how this capability is being built not just to deliver the Fleet Solid Support programme, but to meet the Royal Navy's future requirements set out in the Defence Investment Plan.

The Telegraph came to Harland & Wolff last week to see how things are going, and there was plenty to show them.

Our new panel line in Belfast is installed and in use, part of £157m we are investing across our four UK yards. Our teams are building the first of three Fleet Solid Support ships for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, alongside a commercial export contract.

What that means locally is more work for firms around the yards and more people through the gates. We have 222 apprentices with us today, and another 121 start in the coming weeks.

Gavin Robinson MP has written for Politics.co.uk today about defence investment and the role Belfast plays in UK sovereign shipbuilding.

We were pleased to see his recognition of the progress at the yard. Since acquiring Harland & Wolff in January 2025 Navantia UK have been delivering a £98.5m investment programme in facilities and equipment, and the workforce has grown alongside it. This year's apprentices are starting careers in a yard that has been building ships for over 160 years.

As the Defence Investment Plan moves forward, Belfast stands ready to play its part.
