Action Renewables had an unforgettable day at the inaugural Northern Ireland Utilities Cup 2026 at the Ballymena Showgrounds on 5th June. Hosted by Kinecx Energy, the event brought together 18 teams from across the utilities sector for a brilliant day of football, fundraising and community spirit all in support of Autism NI.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, an incredible £5,300 was raised, helping fund vital services for autistic people and their families. Congratulations to Openreachh on becoming the first ever winers of the tournament, and thank you to Kinecx Energy for being such great hosts.

Also, we would like to give a huge thank you to all teams, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who made this event such a success. Here’s to building on this momentum for years to come.

We are halfway through the Active Travel Month so here's an update on how we have been doing so far!

So far we have achieved:
139 Journeys
1,054 miles
Saved 98kg of CO2
Saved £250.30

All through modes of active travel such as walking or cycling!

Saving 98kg of CO2 has prevented the amount of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions that could have been produced by an average petrol car that has driven around 350 miles.

Why is this important?

The transport industry contributes to 15% of total Green House Gas (GHG) emissions globally to our atmosphere, making it the third biggest contributor of harmful pollutants. These pollutants not only cause the effects of climate change but have a direct effect on public health.

Lowering levels of air pollution will result in better cardiovascular and respiratory health of populations in both the long and short-term.

Almost every organ in the body can be impacted by air pollution

The specific disease outcomes most strongly linked with exposure to air pollution include stroke, ischaemic heart disease, COPD, lung cancer and pneumonia.

Ambient (outdoor) air pollution in both cities and rural areas was estimated to have caused 4.2 million premature deaths worldwide in 2019 (WHO, 2024).

Doing what we can to lower the amount of harmful pollutants in our atmosphere is important not only for the environment, but also for global public health.

Lana Moore, Head of Charity Delivery at Action Renewables, joined Landscapes NI on a four day study visit across County Mayo and beyond. Exploring mountain path restoration on Croagh Patrick, coastal dune protection at Bertra Beach, peatland recovery at Wild Nephin, and nature friendly farming in West Fermanagh. This was an inspiring week of learning, collaboration and real world climate and biodiversity action happening across our island.

We would like to thank Mike McClure from Landscapes NI for organising an exceptional study visit, and extend our gratitude to Leave No Trace Ireland, Mountaineering Ireland, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Ulster Wildlife and all those who shared their expertise and experiences throughout the week.

Last week, Action Renewables partnered with EnergyCloud Northern Ireland to update stakeholders on progress and to discuss the next steps for EnergyCloudNI.
Key speakers were Dr Patrick Keatley from Ulster University (Chair of ECNI) , Carla McSorley from FoodCloud, and representatives from Housing Partners, Supply Company Partners and Board Members.
With around 50 in attendance, it was a full house with representation from NIE Networks, SONI - System Operator for Northern Ireland, Bryson Charitable Group, Utility Regulator NI, Department for the Economy NI, Department for Communities. It was a great opportunity for all interested stakeholders to get a better understanding of the issues, and the obstacles faced.

Action Renewables were super excited to attend the Rosie's Trust in Portadown recently for week.

The event also marked an exciting milestone in our partnership, celebrating the sponsorship of their new electric van, helping the team continue to deliver their vital services in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

With the sun shining and plenty of happy dogs enjoying the day, it was fantastic to see the local community come together in support of such a worthwhile cause.
