Out with Paddy today getting the lads sorted — chimney grind out and repoint plus a patio clean with Red Label. Nipped over to Murdocks for some materials and bumped into GWH Plumbing, sound bloke and the best plumber about, he’s doing my bathroom. Then over to Andy’s for a bit of snagging and tidy up before heading back to finish everything off and calling it a day. Good day on the tools.

Just got this cracking 5-star review from my childhood friend Stephen after we repointed his stone cottage. We even sorted a wee roof flashing repair while we were there (we’re not roofers but she’s watertight now 😂).
Means the world coming from an old mate. Really appreciate the kind words!

Out on site today and Joe the apprentice decided to test himself against Karl 😂 Karl’s Patrick’s cousin, he used to work with us, and he’s in giving us a hand today. Karl did MMA growing up and he’s an absolute solid unit. Joe reckoned he could take a punch to the stomach… so Karl told him “I’ll give you five and I only get one back”. Then Karl just stood there and took every single shot with zero retaliation! The banter on site was next level. Proper geezer. Who else has mad apprentice moments like this? Morning everyone!

Spotted Joe and Andy outside the house this morning after last night’s little mix-up 😊

They accidentally took the bricklayer’s tools in the Merc, drove all the way home in rush hour, then had to bring every single one back! The man needs his tools to earn his living after all.

Quick stop at Costa for a wee coffee to chat it over. Bosh! ☕

Test your brick wall mortar at home with distilled vinegar – super easy way to check if it’s lime or cement before you get a quote!

On this red Belfast brick solid wall I show you exactly how: Drop a bit of modern cement in vinegar = no reaction. Then scrape some real mortar from the joint into the vinegar = straight away bubbling and foaming. That means it’s lime mortar.

Lime is breathable and perfect for old solid walls like this – it lets moisture escape and stops damp damage. Cement can trap the moisture and cause bigger problems down the line.

Started the morning giving Andy the Westlink salute then me and Paddy landed on our wee job to sort brick replacements before grinding out and repointing it tomorrow.
Bit of graft, bit of brick hunting, bit of Makita versus DeWalt abuse for JT Masonry, then finished off with a Costa where the girls threatened to get their lawyers on me for filming.
