Northern Ireland households are set to see another electricity price rise, with Share Energy announcing a 12.6% increase from 1 October 2026. For a typical home, that could mean around £129 extra a year, while daily standing charges stay the same.

If you're on a Bill Pay, Keypad, Economy 7 or EV tariff, now's a good time to compare your options and check whether there's a better deal for your usage. Don't accept higher bills automatically — shop around and see what's available.

⚠️ firmus energy customers in Northern Ireland should be aware of upcoming gas price increases this October.

- Ten Towns: prices rise by 8.98% from 1 October 2026
- Greater Belfast: prices rise by 12.5% from 8 October 2026

The company says the changes are due to higher wholesale gas costs and ongoing uncertainty in international energy markets. For a typical credit meter household, this could mean an annual increase of around £87 in Ten Towns and around £147 in Greater Belfast.

SSE Airtricity Gas has announced a 19.2% price increase from 1 October 2026 for customers in the Greater Belfast and West gas network areas. For a typical bill pay customer using 12,000 kWh a year, that means an annual bill rise of around £174. If you're concerned about your bill or meter top-up, contact your supplier as soon as possible and make sure your meter reading is up to date so you're billed on actual usage.

The new Prime Minister's proposal to reduce VAT on electricity bills has sparked plenty of debate, particularly as the changes won't automatically apply in Northern Ireland.

As part of yesterday's Belfast Telegraph coverage of the announcement, Power to Switch founder Aodhan O'Donnell shared his thoughts on what it could mean for local households.

While any support is welcome, the reality is that many families will still face higher energy costs, making it more important than ever to understand your options and make sure you're on the best available tariff.
