Exciting times at Firefly Green Fuels. Today Wizz Air have announced a £5m investment into the company, along with an offtake for 525,000 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

It’s wonderful to see this innovation, developed by the amazing team at Green Fuels Research, move one step closer towards commercialisation.

Turning sewage sludge into aviation fuel tackles two of the largest environmental challenges today - putting sewage sludge to beneficial use and decarbonising aviation! With a 90+% carbon saving over fossil jet, our first order alone will save a staggering 1.5m tonnes of CO2-eq!

Our collaboration on sustainable biofuels in received a significant boost a couple of weeks ago, when CEO James Hygate participated in the Global Workshop on , organised by the Regional Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CRITT), in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais State.

We are driven by research and development. R&D has been core to the business and guides our technology development enabling us to decarbonize in areas that are often challenging. We have focused on new catalysts for sustainable fuel production, novel non-food feedstocks, and valorization of wastes from aquaculture and sugarcane agriculture. We pioneered the use of ‘drop-in’ biofuels in aviation and hold patents in key areas of biofuel production and technology. As fuels are burned in an engine, they produce more than just carbon dioxide.
