Headline: 364 days of zero cash flow... because an auditor was too shy to ask a question. 📑🔥
Think an Ofgem audit is always fair? Think again.
A client of mine—a man who runs a flawless operation—was recently visited by a junior auditor who was completely out of his depth. Instead of asking "what’s that pipe for?" or "where’s the thermal store?", he stayed quiet, took a few photos, and went home to write a report that was pure fiction.
He reported that equipment was missing simply because he hadn't looked behind the right door. Worse, he flagged a perfectly legal safety pipe as an "illegal connection."
The Result? A total disaster. I had to go on the offensive. I told Ofgem straight: "I don't think your auditor went to the right address. This report is garbage." We won. Ofgem eventually admitted the blunder. But the "victory" took 364 days to arrive. That’s one full year of suspended payments and zero RHI income because of one lad with a clipboard and no common sense.
The Lesson: Even if you’re 100% compliant, a bad auditor can still sink you. Don't let them "fish" in your yard alone. You need someone there who speaks the language and can stop a ghost report before it hits the system.
