Notice your drains absolutely honking this week? You're not alone. Half of Bexleyheath is dealing with the same whiff, and most of you can fix it in 30 seconds flat.
Here's what's happening: July heat evaporates the water sitting in your gully traps and those u-bends nobody uses. That water is your only seal against sewer gas. Once it's gone, the smell comes straight up. Check your outside gullies behind the kitchen, that downstairs loo nobody touches, utility room drains, or the en-suite in your spare room.
The quick test: pour a bucket of water down the gully or run the tap for a minute. If the smell clears within the hour, you've just refilled the trap. Job done, no charge needed.
But if the pong comes straight back or you're seeing slow drainage too, that's a real fault. Fat build-up, wet-wipe blockage, cracked pipes, or root ingress. Root growth peaks in summer, and much of Kent sits on Victorian clay drains that crack and let roots in. A CCTV survey shows us exactly what's going on in under an hour, so you're not paying for work you don't need.
