Well that was a blast!

About two years ago, shortly after guesting on the Renngineering podcast for the first time, the main man asked me to come on Niners Unplugged and talk about my Cayman.

At the time the car had a few trick bits but was a long way from being finished.

Truth be told, I was always a bit annoyed at myself for not pushing the date back so I can present a more finished version. In hindsight though, I just didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity.

Fast forward a couple of years and I’ve now got a good friend in Frank, so was absolutely bowled over when I got a phone call a couple of days after Megaphonics’25 to ask if I was up for not only going for round two with Niners Unplugged, but switching it up and co-hosting.

[silence] F**k yes….

That brings us to today. My fourth live podcast in the bank and 69th episode in total.

A huge thanks to and everyone that stayed for part 2 as the day was a two-parter with up first, who was as lovely, witty and intelligent as I expected.

So I’m home now, eating my way through tiramisu, spending money on vintage stickers and wondering wtf happened 😅😂😂

Someone older and wiser than me once gave me some solid advice. Just fu***ng say yes Paul. Stop trying to figure it all out.

Today was me just saying yes.

Big thanks and love to Frank, Annabel and the rest of the Boxengasse team that did a great job of getting it done.

Big big thanks to all of you that took time to say hello, both old friends and new.

If you don’t look back, it’s not the right car…

7 years and counting.

Have you had periods of falling out of love for your car or has it been a daily obsession since purchase?

You will not believe this! 👀

For the best part of seven years I’ve owned this little humble base 981 Cayman, and over the last two years or so, I’ve been faffing with it.

This year with the project finished, has seen some real accolades.

That said, the car isn’t some wild RWB thing so it doesn’t fit in everywhere. Parked up next to something slammed on the deck with crazy camber, it looks pretty ordinary (read subtle).

Then last night something happened. the gent of a man that owns and founded hosted founder Rob Dickinson for The Hut’s first “I love you, man” live chat.

Not only was it brilliant, but during a quick break, Rob took a look at a few cars, including mine….

The verdict????

He loved it! Not a quick “nice car” and walk on but a good few minutes asking questions.

As if that wasn’t validation enough…

During the Q&A, found another moment to call back to my car and use it as a reference for what good looks like.

I already know I looked like a bloody idiot at that point with some gormless half grin, half smirk.

So there you have it. My humble Cayman is good enough for the founder of the most notable and possibly important (certainly most well known) Porsche builder on the planet.

Oh and he signed the inside of my bonnet.

A passing moment for Rob I’m certain but something that has made the whole build so much more meaningful.

That’s a wrap on

Best bits for me:
1) Seeing Renngineering friend 356 get so much love.
2) Using my 75kg’s to stop canopy turning in to a giant sail!
3) Meeting old friends and new
4) creating a .performance display
5) Seeing a Carrera GT get spanked around Goodwood circuit in damp conditions which equalled some epic skids!

A short gap now for me as I’m at the Royal International Air Tattoo for the day gig before Megaphonics with on Sunday 3rd August (check out Boxengasse for tickets).

Still a pinch me moment.

Brilliant Brooklands!

have kindly spent basically the last three weeks humouring me 😅 being a bit of a pain in the ass about wanting to find great display spots at both Summer Solstice and now this weekend at not to mention a full photo shoot for Porsche Post!

I absolutely spammed my stories with loads of Brooklands content but it really is a magical place. 10/10 recommend.

The truck keeps on and I’ve offered to do a prom run for a few local school students and then it’s Flat Six Show.

A few people came to say hi just as I was jumping in 356 to do a run up Test Hill so sadly couldn’t stop. Plenty of time to catch up with people next weekend. So if you haven’t picked up your tickets yet, get on it and I’ll see you there.

Summer Solstice with PCGB

I don’t quite know what I was expecting when I headed down to for Summer Solstice event. It’s the first time I’d been to Boxengasse that isn’t either catching up with my mate or or obviously Megaphonics.

It’s fair to say though, that it had that same feel good vibe and a jaw dropping set of cars to see.

Excellent food and lovely people. Always good to catch Ty and chew the fat. I’m impressed we kept it to ten minutes rather than the usual hour (minimum). 😁

Made new friends in and catch up with who kindly tapped me on the shoulder to say hi.

Finally, a big thanks to the Porsche Club GB for creating space for the Cayman to sit amongst some very special machinery.

Next up - the first magazine feature shoot for the. Renngineering Cayman with for Porsche post!

Consumer advice inside!

At this point in a cars life, particularly a sports car a phenomenon happens. The bulk of owners start to decline the “optional” service items.

Those reports you get back have a few more ambers than greens. Then there’s the awkward moment where you’re already paying a chunky service bill and faced with the option of declining, or realising these cars aren’t cheap to run and getting ahead of the curve.

I’ve given out hundreds of these advisory pages and 9/10 times people at best go for something essential. Lots defer the maintenance. Then maybe trade it in and buy another car, or put it to the back of their mind for another day.

Another year goes past and a few reds come in. Maybe an MOT failure.

Crisis moment happens. “Four Thousand Pounds?! That’s outrageous” like you’ve just broken in to their house.

Yes my car got a full raft of greens* but it’s not because my car is any more or less special than any other Porsche. What I do though, is constantly monitor the condition of the car and manage maintenance when it suits me financially and when there are offers on with suppliers.

Best piece of advice I can give for avoiding huge bills. Swallow the tomahawk steak 🥩 over a year or two and not in one mouthful.

Big thanks to the guys for their excellent work and Scott in particular. One of the handful of people to ever have driven my Cayman.

Nothing but good vibes.

Big thanks to for hosting today and as ever, huge kudos to long term partner of the podcast for just nailing what it means to deliver amazing aesthetics and the feel good vibes everyone has come to expect.

Thanks for everyone popping over to say hello. Thankfully did manage to record some of the conversations which will be out this next coming Thursday on the podcast.
