What can we do to reduce the impact to ourselves?
The key is thinking before you do anything. Could you have a shorter shower. Could you get up early to cool the house with fresh air to reduce the need for fans/aircon? Could you turn things off when not in use? Could you wait to use washing machine/dishwasher until full? etc
Each little bit adds up. You are likely to be able to reduce much more in the winter when you use more but now is a good time to start practicing.
BUT it is important to remember - for most people, what you are charged is based on the supplier's estimate of your usage over the year. You can expect to be in credit in the summer and use the credit in the winter. If you manage to use significantly less than their estimate, you will need to ask them to reduce your monthly payment.
A household using a typical amount of energy will pay £221 a year more, under the regulator's new price cap.
