This takes us to Kinlochleven in the Scottish Highlands, where TIS carried out major protective coating works to historic hydro-electric pipelines on the mountainside.

Built between 1905 and 1909, Kinlochleven was Britain’s first major hydro-electric project. Six pipelines carry water from the Blackwater Dam, around 1,000 feet above sea level, down to Kinlochleven Power Station.

With the existing protective coatings more than 25 years old and at the end of their service life, TIS was appointed as Principal Contractor to undertake re-preservation works.

Our scope included:
• More than 1,100m² of protective coatings
• Ground, vegetation and rock clearance
• Grit blasting and pressure washing
• Surface preparation and painting
• Rope access
• Steelwork repairs
The location brought its own challenges — steep inclines, restricted access and a public access road regularly used by mountain walkers.

Equipment and methods were therefore carefully selected for the environment, including the use of chemically inert abrasives, while rope access enabled our teams to safely undertake works on the steepest sections.

The initial contract covered the upper sections of the pipelines, with additional areas subsequently awarded during the project.
Every section was completed to programme, including the additional works, with no lost-time incidents, a high standard of workmanship and a highly satisfied client.

A project that demonstrates exactly what integrated access, coatings and project management can achieve — even in one of the more demanding locations we’ve worked.

For this week’s , we’re revisiting a project at Harwich Port — and one that certainly made an impression once the scaffold was fully encapsulated.

TIS provided the scaffolding and encapsulation required to create a contained working environment around the bridge structure.

On projects like this, the access solution is about much more than simply reaching the workface. Careful scaffold design and effective encapsulation can help create a protected area for subsequent works while limiting the impact of the activity on the surrounding environment.

It’s a great example of the type of integrated access solution our teams can deliver for challenging infrastructure projects.

Speaking of lighthouses… for this week’s , we’re looking back at our work on the historic Herd Groyne Lighthouse at the Port of Tyne.

TIS was proud to support the restoration of this important local landmark, providing scaffolding, encapsulation and protective coatings as part of the works.

Standing at the entrance to the River Tyne, the Herd Groyne Lighthouse has been part of the region’s maritime landscape for almost 150 years. Its restoration was supported by a £100,000 donation from the Barbour Foundation, helping to preserve the structure for years to come.

For TIS, the project combined specialist access and asset protection with something particularly important to us — contributing to the preservation of North East infrastructure and heritage.

The works were successfully completed on time and within budget, and we’re proud to have played our part in giving this landmark a new lease of life.

The shrink-wrap is now complete at the Heugh Lighthouse in Hartlepool.

With the scaffold fully encapsulated, the structure is protected from the elements, creating a controlled working environment that allows specialist maintenance to continue safely and efficiently, whatever the weather.

Work will now be handed over to our specialist coatings team, who will carry out the next phase of the project, helping to protect the lighthouse from the elements and keep it looking its best for years to come.

Originally first lit in 1927, the Heugh Lighthouse has guided vessels into Hartlepool Harbour for almost a century and remains one of the town's most recognisable landmarks.

We're pleased to play a part in preserving an important piece of the North East's maritime heritage through carefully planned access and protection solutions.

Another bespoke scaffold complete and ready for shrink-wrap.

Purpose-designed to meet the unique requirements of the project, this scaffold provides a safe, secure enclosure for specialist works while helping to protect the structure and keep work progressing in all weather conditions.

This installation is at the Heugh Lighthouse in Hartlepool, one of the town's most recognisable landmarks. First lit in 1927, the lighthouse stands at the entrance to Hartlepool's historic Headland and continues to guide vessels into the harbour nearly a century later.

We're proud to support the preservation and maintenance of important local infrastructure across the North East.

We've recently upgraded our yard fleet with the addition of some replacement forklifts.

Our forklifts are a vital part of our day to day operations, keeping materials moving efficiently as we load and unload deliveries and handle insulation, scaffolding, and other equipment that supports our projects. Replacing our older machines helps improve reliability, supports our team, and contributes to safe and efficient operations across the yard.

A big thank you to B&S Forklifts Ltd for their guidance and support throughout the process of acquiring the forklifts.

We look forward to seeing them in action!

TIS was proud to support No Falls Week 2026 last week, helping raise awareness of the risks associated with working at height.
During the week, colleagues took part in a Ladder Safety Quiz through our in-house app and attended in-person safety presentations, reinforcing key safety messages and best practice.
Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped put safety first.
