I am an online science tutor and I love helping students to improve their grades by using scientifically proven methods of teaching and learning, alongside my ongoing work as a teaching assistant. My experiences of voluntary work with Yorkshire Mentoring, and supporting students in and out of the classroom, have helped me to establish a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable
to have a go and make mistakes. I ask lots of questions to check understanding and to help with memorising and retrieval. I have a 1st class degree in chemistry from the University of Nottingham, and A-levels at grade A in chemistry, physics and biology. I love my job as a science teaching assistant and tutor in a secondary school - foundation and higher level, supporting students with additional needs in the classroom, and in exams by scribing and reading. I had to work hard for my grades and I didn`t find it easy. I believe this helps with my teaching as I can see where students might be struggling, and adapt my methods and materials for each individual student. My experiences of working in education as well as in the private and voluntary sectors have provided me with an overview of the benefits of scientific skills and knowledge, and help me to put learning in context for students to make it more relevant. I have worked as a medicinal chemist for a pharmaceutical company, a computer programmer in finance and IT in London, and a fundraising manager for a national charity. My passion lies in teaching, especially working one-to-one where I have a track record of improving students' confidence and grades in a short time. I have lived in the USA for several years, and I now live near Bingley, West Yorkshire, with my husband, our two secondary school-age daughters and our dog, Teddy.
