🏡 Nursing Home Pipework Upgrade – Part 2

This visit involved upgrading the secondary hot water return pipework.

The second hot water return continuously circulates hot water around the building, helping ensure faster hot water delivery at outlets while improving system efficiency and reducing water waste.

Upgrading ageing pipework helps improve reliability, circulation, and overall performance across the system.

🚨 A small leak can become a much bigger issue when pipework can’t be isolated.

Following a leak at this nursing home, we installed additional isolation valves throughout the heating system. This allows sections of pipework to be shut off independently, making future repairs and maintenance quicker and less disruptive for residents.

💡 Many older systems have limited isolation points, meaning even a simple repair can require draining down large parts of the system.

🚨 Commercial Leak Repair 🚨

We recently attended a commercial property after an Aquatechnik MLCP (Multi-Layer Composite Pipe) was accidentally punctured, causing a leak. These multi-layer pipes are commonly used in commercial heating and plumbing systems due to their strength and flexibility.

Using a Fränkische press fitting, we carried out a repair and had the system back up and running in no time. 🔧💧

💡 Commercial properties should only be attended by engineers with the correct commercial qualifications. Commercial systems are often larger, more complex, and subject to different regulations than domestic installations.

🌡️ TMV Installation Completed

Today we installed Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs) to improve hot water safety.

A TMV blends hot and cold water together to deliver water at a safe, controlled temperature, helping to reduce the risk of scalding while still allowing hot water to be stored at temperatures that help prevent bacteria such as Legionella.

💡 TMVs are particularly important in care homes, schools, nurseries, healthcare settings, and homes with young children or vulnerable adults.

🚨 Gas leak found during a routine gas safety check 🚨

During this inspection, we identified a gas leak on the system and carried out the necessary repairs before safely re-testing and recommissioning the installation ✅

💡 Common signs of a gas leak can include:
• Smell of gas
• Hissing sounds near pipework or appliances
• Pilot lights repeatedly going out
• Unexplained headaches or dizziness
• Higher than normal gas usage

If you ever suspect a gas leak:

❌ Do not use naked flames
✅ Open doors and windows
