Women in Tech Birmingham Women In Tech Birmingham will meet up regularly to support, empower, and promote women and non-binary people in tech

Not all career pivots look the same, and Dilek's left us speechless.

Meet Dilek Sari, a Salesforce Product Manager at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital Charity, and one of the bravest voices in the room at the May Lightning Talks event.

Dilek spent 16 years as a teacher in Turkey before making a courageous decision to start a new life in the UK, with her two children. She entered tech in 2021 with no prior experience, and has since built an impressive career spanning a US-based Salesforce consultancy and The Economist.

Her talk, 'Tell me what you can do with your hands', was a deeply personal story of loss, resilience and reinvention. The talk was a testament to how with resilience, perseverance and determination, one can achieve anything they set out to, even in the face of adversity.

To Dilek, thank you. Thank you for trusting our community with your story, for showing up both vulnerably and powerfully. We are incredibly proud to have had you as one of our speakers. 🙌

While we're gearing up for the June Tech Talks, we're sharing a brief conversation with Liz Hemes, one of our brilliant speakers from the Lightning Talks in May, before and after her talk 🌟

Liz brought her fresh perspectives and years of experience as a Client Services Director to the room, sparking an honest and uplifting conversation about how we could all show up better for ourselves, at work and beyond. Her talk, "Adults need snack breaks and gold stars too", reminded us that the encouragement we so freely give to children, we deserve it too✨

Thank you, Liz, for bringing such warmth, wisdom and great energy to the evening! It was a pleasure having you as part of such an incredible line-up!

Have you ever had an idea you never acted on because it didn't feel "worth it" yet? 💜

If yes, this one's for you.

We're so excited to welcome Micaela, Senior Product Designer at Picsart, to our next tech talk. She's going to share how she stopped waiting for a good enough reason to build things, and just started building them using AI tools, on her own terms, for the joy of it.

No business case. No developer. No permission needed.

We know so many of us have been there. And we believe this talk is going to feel like a breath of fresh air.

Come along, grab some food and drinks, and spend the evening with a brilliant community of women in tech at all stages of their careers. We'd love to see you there. 🌸

What an evening!✨

Yesterday's Lightning Talks left us absolutely buzzing, with raw conversations, genuine connections, and incredible talks. Our brilliant speakers brought their stories of resilience, perseverance, and navigating a career in tech that inspired, challenged, and moved the room. We are truly grateful to Dilek Sari, Liz Hemes, Aditi Lakhotia and Sweta Kumari for opening up and sharing their journeys and valuable insights with the audience.

A huge thank you to the team at Griffiths Waite for opening their gorgeous office space to us and welcoming our members with such warmth. You made the evening feel special from the moment we walked in.🙌

And of course, this wouldn't have been possible without our sponsor for the event, TechMids. Events like this exist and thrive because of the support from organisations and communities like TechMids. Go give their page a follow as their 2026 conference announcement is coming very soon and you won't want to miss it!

To every single person who showed up, joined the conversations, and brought their energy to the room, thank you. You are what makes these evenings worth it.

We'll see you at the next one. Stay tuned! 👀

We gathered again as a Women in Tech Birmingham community and honestly, the room had such a special energy.

Karissa Uka had us completely hooked. Her talk "Thinking in the Tension: How to Stay a Genuine Thinker When AI Won't Slow Down" wasn't the usual AI conversation. She made the case for something we don't hear enough in this industry: slow down. Find your voice. Trust it. And the way she brought her own experiences into it made it feel so grounded and honest.

The conversations that followed were just as good. That's the thing about this community, the talking doesn't stop when the talk ends. 💬

So thank you to Karissa for being so generous with her insight, and to everyone who came, shared, asked questions, and stayed to chat. You're the reason these evenings are worth showing up for. 🌸

A big thank you to Claire Mironik and Aston University for hosting us!!

And if last night got you thinking "I have something to say too" you're in luck… 👀

✨ Lightning Talks are back! 🌩️ ✨

Whether it's a passion project, your favourite piece of tech, or a book that's been living rent-free in your head, we want to hear about it. It's the perfect low-pressure way to share what you love with a warm, supportive crowd.
