Surface engineering is full of career paths, and no two roles look the same.

Some people focus on research developing new coatings and treatments in laboratories. Others work in manufacturing applying processes that improve durability safety and performance at scale. Sustainability specialists look at ways to extend product life reduce waste and support cleaner production. Designers and problem solvers help shape how surface engineering is built into products from the very start. There truly is a place for every kind of talent from hands on practical skills to scientific curiosity and creative thinking.

These careers and many more will be brought to life at our Surface Engineering Industry Conference on Thursday 15 October 2026 at Chesford Grange. The event will explore how different roles connect across industry and how surface engineering supports sectors such as aerospace, healthcare, energy, and advanced manufacturing.

It is a chance to learn how diverse skills come together behind the scenes and to see where a future in surface engineering might take you.
