We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Nick Drew, Nick Drew Media to our Willowbrook site 🚧👷‍♂️🚜

During his visit, Nick had the opportunity to see our JCB 145XR pouring footings and our JCB 25Z-1 hard at work on site. It was great to showcase these machines in action and discuss the progress being made at Willowbrook.

Thank you for taking the time to visit, Nick. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Groundworks is all about building solid foundations and that includes looking after the people doing the work.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to recognise the pressures that can come with long days, tight deadlines, and physically demanding environments. Behind every project is a team of people, and checking in with each other matters.
A strong site starts with a strong team, and sometimes the most important thing you can do is simply ask someone how they’re doing

Our Operations Director Tom attended today in Cardiff City Stadium.

As always it’s a brilliant opportunity to catch up, make new connections, and stay up to date with what’s happening across the construction industry in Wales

Looking forward to the Swansea event 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Settlement Tank Construction 🚧

This reinforced concrete structure was delivered in three carefully planned pours, using steel reinforcement, high-strength concrete, and precision formwork to construct both the base and walls.

Concrete placement was controlled using an excavator and Tremie skip, ensuring accuracy and quality throughout each pour. After curing, formwork panels were stripped, cleaned, and reused for subsequent phases—maximizing efficiency on site.

Keep a look out for the final product

Earlier on this week Lewis won an Apprentice of the Year award at this is what he and Tom Diggle (Operations Manager) has to say about Lewis’ win.

Lewis “I’m really proud to win this award and very grateful to RMG and The Construction Hub Academy for supporting me”

Tom Diggle “We are incredibly proud of Lewis and how he has come on in the last 18 months, he’s really come out of his shell. Lewis has never missed a day of work; he always turns up ready to work. He’s a credit to himself and his family. It’s a pleasure to have him part of the RMG team”

How are you enjoying your apprenticeship?
I’m really enjoying it, it’s going very well. The staff onsite make my apprenticeship easier because they are very helpful and encouraging, which has helped my confidence grow. I am also looking forward to Visiting JCB world HQ this month with The Construction Hub Academy as part of my apprenticeship

What made you start in construction?
I wanted to do something that was hands on and physical, a desk job isn’t for me. The added benefit is I get to earn money whilst I’m still learning

Do you have any words of wisdom to people thinking of starting a Groundworks Apprenticeship?
I would recommend a Groundworks apprenticeship, especially with RMG. I have had so many opportunities, and they have always supported me. This apprenticeship has been inspiring and I’m looking forward to being a fully qualified Groundworker.

For apprenticeship week we sat down for a quick chat with our Operations Director Tom Diggle for his thoughts on apprenticeships 👷🏻🚧🧱

Why are apprentices important to the industry?

They are the future of the industry; we need youngsters coming through. As a company we are fortunate to have a young workforce and it’s important we continue to ensure opportunities are available for the next generations

What are the advantages of an apprenticeship?

Upskilling, gaining hands on experience and the apprentices come out fully qualified at the end of it. Especially in today’s society we need to make sure we are compliant, work safely and the best way to do that is have a fully qualified workforce. Mentorship on site is very important, who the apprentices are placed with has a big impact on their future, we want them treated as Groundworkers not labourers

Wise words

Turn up every day on time, even on the wet cold days and everything else will work out

It’s and we are so proud to be able to support the next generation of Groundworkers. This is what Morgan had to say about his apprenticeship 👷🏻🚧🧱

How are you enjoying your apprenticeship?
Its awesome, I’m learning new skills I would have never thought about or learnt if I didn’t join the apprenticeship program. I am enjoying meeting and socialising with new people both on site and the other apprentices

What made you start in construction?
I was originally in college studying bricklaying and Tom Diggle (Operations Director) attended a careers day event, we got talking, I sent my CV got offered the job and I haven’t looked back since

Do you have any words of wisdom to people thinking of starting a Groundworks Apprenticeship?
You get to learn new skills, gain life experience and also can earn money whilst learning. Hopefully its a job for life and definitely listen more than you talk
