Constructionline Gold renewed for Pure Labs.

Constructionline Gold is the UK's most widely used pre-qualification standard and the primary route to the Common Assessment Standard, the benchmark now required by Tier 1 contractors, public sector bodies, and major procurement frameworks.

It covers health and safety, environmental management, quality management, equal opportunities and diversity, anti-bribery, modern slavery, and financial standing. Everything is independently verified. Not self-declared.

It must be renewed every year. The assessment, the documentation, and the evidence are reassessed every time.

This renewal was more involved than previous years. The Common Assessment Standard was updated in 2025, and the Corporate and Professional Standing, Environmental, and Fairness, Inclusion and Respect sections were all revised to reflect new legislation and guidance. More ground to cover, more evidence required.

For clients and contractors putting tender lists together, the pre-qualification work is already done. Pure Labs meets the Common Assessment Standard, so there is no need to run a separate vetting process before adding us to an approved supplier list. We are on the register, independently assessed, and ready to go.

For laboratory and pharmaceutical projects, working with a Constructionline Gold-accredited specialist means one less thing to manage and a partner who has demonstrated it operates properly across every area that matters, not just the technical ones.

80% of cyber attacks exploit basic weaknesses. We've covered them.

Cyber Essentials is the UK government's baseline cyber security standard, overseen by the National Cyber Security Centre. It is built around five technical controls covering firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection, and security update management. Certification is independently verified through the IASME Consortium.

Pure Companies, including Pure Vent, Pure Labs, and Pure Fabs, are now certified.

For the clients, contractors, and supply chain partners we work with, it means the group has the right protections in place against the most common internet-based threats. An assessed standard that must be renewed every year.

Meet Mark Lomax, Project Manager at Pure Labs.

What's your role?

Project Manager, with some input on technical sales. My focus is on making sure projects run smoothly from manufacture through to completion on site.

What does a typical day look like?

Liaising with clients, suppliers, site teams, and internal departments. Reviewing project schedules, monitoring manufacturing, and making sure milestones are hit. A lot of it is about spotting risk early, whether that's a delay, a design change, a bottleneck in manufacturing or a site coordination issue. I also get involved in system and product design, which I enjoy.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The variety of people. One day you're talking to a senior chemist, the next you're on site with the fitters. No two conversations are the same.

What's been your proudest achievement so far?

Building a company from nothing and running it for 12 years, always putting the customer first and never letting them down. I'm only two months into my time at Pure Labs, but I've already managed to save the business £12k, so it's a decent start!

What might colleagues be surprised to learn?

I played for Bolton under-17s football team.

How do you spend time outside work?

Running after a 12-year-old! I also coach a youth football team and try to spend as much time with family as I can.

Do you have a hobby that helps you switch off?

Time for a hobby would be nice! I do enjoy cooking, though. The spicier the better.

At Chesterford Research Park, we supported Halsall with the supply and installation of 10 Mach-Aire Classic Style fume cupboards and a complete fume extract system across three floors.

Space constraints and roof pe*******on restrictions made the original in-line fan approach unviable.

Our team redesigned the system using roof-mounted centrifugal fans with vertical discharge stacks, heavy-duty support frames, and a fully coordinated ductwork layout, all of which were planned with long-term maintenance access in mind.

Each R&D suite now benefits from a high-performance fume cupboard with mechanical service blanks and dual-purpose low-level storage, plus capacity for future expansion as research demands grow.

This project demonstrates the value of using a single specialist provider for both fume cupboards and extract systems, backed by experienced design support from concept through to installation by Pure Labs and Mach-Aire.
