Meet Mark Lomax, Project Manager at Pure Labs.

What's your role?

Project Manager, with some input on technical sales. My focus is on making sure projects run smoothly from manufacture through to completion on site.

What does a typical day look like?

Liaising with clients, suppliers, site teams, and internal departments. Reviewing project schedules, monitoring manufacturing, and making sure milestones are hit. A lot of it is about spotting risk early, whether that's a delay, a design change, a bottleneck in manufacturing or a site coordination issue. I also get involved in system and product design, which I enjoy.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The variety of people. One day you're talking to a senior chemist, the next you're on site with the fitters. No two conversations are the same.

What's been your proudest achievement so far?

Building a company from nothing and running it for 12 years, always putting the customer first and never letting them down. I'm only two months into my time at Pure Labs, but I've already managed to save the business £12k, so it's a decent start!

What might colleagues be surprised to learn?

I played for Bolton under-17s football team.

How do you spend time outside work?

Running after a 12-year-old! I also coach a youth football team and try to spend as much time with family as I can.

Do you have a hobby that helps you switch off?

Time for a hobby would be nice! I do enjoy cooking, though. The spicier the better.

At Chesterford Research Park, we supported Halsall with the supply and installation of 10 Mach-Aire Classic Style fume cupboards and a complete fume extract system across three floors.

Space constraints and roof pe*******on restrictions made the original in-line fan approach unviable.

Our team redesigned the system using roof-mounted centrifugal fans with vertical discharge stacks, heavy-duty support frames, and a fully coordinated ductwork layout, all of which were planned with long-term maintenance access in mind.

Each R&D suite now benefits from a high-performance fume cupboard with mechanical service blanks and dual-purpose low-level storage, plus capacity for future expansion as research demands grow.

This project demonstrates the value of using a single specialist provider for both fume cupboards and extract systems, backed by experienced design support from concept through to installation by Pure Labs and Mach-Aire.

🌹 Celebrating Lancashire Day!

Today it is Lancashire Day and to our Yorkshire friends we say…

"We're r**t good uns, on t' proper side o' t' Pennines, us."

Translated, that simply means: We are on the right side of the Pennines.

Lancashire Day marks the historic anniversary of the 27th of November 1295 when Lancashire sent its first representatives to Parliament. It is a chance to celebrate the county’s heritage, its industry, its people, and the communities that continue to shape our region today. At Pure Companies, we are proud to live, work, manufacture, install, and innovate in Lancashire and beyond.

To mark the day, we’ve taken a few familiar phrases from life on site, in the workshop, and around design desks, and given them a Lancashire twist.

"Works grand on CAD, but bu**er all in t'real world, like."
(It works in CAD but not in real life.)

"Ey up, it's a right rush job an' all... but we've not quite sorted t'look o' it yet, aye."
(It’s urgent, but we haven’t finalised the design yet.)

"Ey up, model says it fits like. Doorway's havin' none o' that, mind."
(The model says it fits. The doorway strongly disagrees.)

"Is that yer best whack? Aye, an' it were t'first 'un an' all."
(Is that your best price? Yes, and it was also the first one.)

A light-hearted nod to the work we do, the people we work with, and the place we call home.
