For the University of Manchester's Learning Commons, WPL designed, supplied and installed horizontal projected solar shading fixed back to feature glass laminated fins.

The detail worth noting: a new die was created specifically to produce the 140mm ARC fin profile, pitched at 150mm and secured from 6mm aluminium profiled support arm rafters. When the design called for a profile that didn't exist, we made the tooling rather than substitute a stock part.

The flagship Kia dealership in London called for a curved decorative mesh facade, which is harder than it sounds. WPL manufactured Kew Expanded Mesh curved to pinpoint accuracy and fitted it onto our own curved aluminium support structure.

Delivering it meant re-writing engineering principles rather than working around the limits of standard ones. The result is a unique, long-lasting facade for a flagship retail site.

At Arts University Bournemouth, WPL designed and installed a perforated rainscreen cladding system where the perforations vary in both position and diameter, producing a facade with genuine visual depth rather than a uniform pattern.

The result worked as an architectural identity: the approach was repeated across different campus buildings for a consistent language.

Architect: Design Engine Architects Ltd. Contractor: Morgan Sindall.

At Salford Royal Hospital's Angiography Department, WPL used aluminium mesh and our own support system to screen the main HVAC services on site.

A simple solution, but a high standard: clean enough that it contributed to the building's credentials for architectural awards. Necessary plant, made to disappear into the architecture.

Architect: Day Architectural Ltd. Contractor: City Build.

At Jodrell Bank Observatory, the facade is the subject. WPL designed and manufactured picture perforated rainscreen panels as a scaled version of the Milky Way for the open-air picnic area, with a glazed roof element completing the structure.

It's an example of architectural screening doing more than screening: a panel pattern that means something specific to where it stands, at one of the most significant radio astronomy sites in the world.

Architect: Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios. Contractor: Manchester & Cheshire Construction Company Ltd.

At Consett Academy in Durham, the pool sits behind a motorised solar shading system that tracks the sun through the day, keeping direct sunlight off the water and reducing glare to a safe level for swimmers.

The engineering is in the scale: operating fins 1.2 metres wide and 6 metres high, moving accurately and reliably in a demanding environment.

Not every perimeter needs the same fence.

Some sites call for decorative finishes that respect the architecture. Others need straightforward, cost-effective perimeter security across long distances. WPL now supplies both: SR2 rated decorative fencing in steel or timber, and coated wire mesh fencing for industrial and commercial sites where budget and coverage are the priority.

Matching access gates. Full structural calculations. One manufacturer, full certification. SR3 and SR4 ratings available shortly.
