Today marks 75 years of the National Health Service.

The NHS is an essential part of life in England, with over a million people receiving treatment daily. Established in 1948, it was the first universal health system to offer free care to everyone. Today, the vast majority of people believe that healthcare should be accessible to all and free of charge, and the NHS is a source of great pride for the British population.

🫂 To put the NHS's scale into perspective, it sees as many people daily as the entire population of Estonia and has more patients staying in beds each night than there are hotel rooms in London.

🍴 Additionally, it provides a staggering 227 meals every minute, equivalent to feeding the entire population of Shropshire in a day.

🌍 The NHS also significantly reduces carbon emissions, with all trusts implementing green plans that will eliminate over a million tonnes of carbon in three years, similar to taking 520,000 cars off the road.

Today we are attending the the Fire Safety & Evacuation Seminar hosted by Avivia

Lee Harvey, London Chair at the National Association of Fire Officers NAHFO National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers kicked off the Fire Safety & Evacuation Seminar.

1️⃣ Embracing Young Blood: Lee emphasised the importance of attracting young professionals to the fire safety industry. As fire safety concerns continue to grow, it has become increasingly challenging to find passionate individuals willing to enter this profession. The critical sector of passive and active fire prevention plays a pivotal role, and it is crucial to promote and highlight the rewards and opportunities that come with joining this field.

2️⃣ Innovation and Mitigation: Lee stressed the significance of prevention in mitigating fire incidents. While we can't always win the battle against unforeseen fires, it is essential to invest in innovative strategies and practices that focus on preventing fires from occurring in the first place. Today's seminar, however, is not the platform to discuss the devastating impacts that fires can have, but rather a forum for exploring proactive measures.

3️⃣ Training: Lee underscored the value of comprehensive training for both staff members and individuals in preventing and responding to fire emergencies. Training is often an underrated yet highly cost-effective solution that can significantly mitigate the risk of fires.

Specialist Door Solutions has recently been working with the team at King's College Hospital to provide a suite of hospital doorsets. They were specifically designed and optimised to meet the demanding requirements of the new hospital outpatient services building.

Their new outpatient building will provide 48 purpose-designed consultation rooms and eight procedure rooms for a range of services.
