A bit about me. Part 1
Ok so you would of all seen a lot of changes with regards to my position and business, I thought it best to write a little about how it started and how I got to where I am today.
It all began at 16, when I started my apprenticeship in fabrication and welding, by the age of 19 i was qualified and coded and I was travelling the world on oil refineries, carrying out essential repair works on FCCU turnarounds for companies like BP, ESSO and SHELL. I continued to do this for 10 years, until my partner and I decided we wanted to start a family and purchase our first home, obviously working away for 2 months at a time was not the ideal situation for either of these decisions, so I made the decision to take a job in the UK, I began with repairs on the local poultry farms by welding and repairing the feeding systems and plant equipment, I was then offered to train as a stockman, eventually i done an NVQ level 3 in poultry management and worked my way up the ranks to become the area manager of all of the farms my employer owned.
But I still had that itch and passion for welding, and also the vision for my own business, so I put the wheels in motion, I decided to take the leap and go for it, I had no customers, no machinery, no unit. Where do I start I asked myself.
So where did I start?
I had a website built advertising fabrication and welding services, I rented a unit and began to purchase machinery I would need to process material, I then hired a guy to help me, and that was it Diverse Fabrications Ltd was born. I managed to get little jobs to start with, making gates and railings for the local customers, but I wanted to get into structural steel, after finding out the law had changed and all companies had to be CE certified to provide it, I went through the certification for both ISO 9001 and BS EN 1090 to ex*****on class 2 for the supply of structural steel. After achieving accreditation I managed to secure a contract and took on another couple of guys, then some more and so on, I re-invested heavily on better machinery and tools, even vans to cover mobile site works. Eventually I had a team of 15 staff and 3 vans out on break downs and installs.
After a while I would get fabrication requests for trolleys, skips and stillages which obviously I would take on, because of these requests, I thought I would start another division to offer my new customers more value, and so Diverse industries ltd was created, offering over 20,000 products for the workplace including trolleys, safety steps, shelving and racking.
Diverse industries ltd would create more avenues within our industry, and also bring different contracts, I was now able to provide a steel building or mezzanine floor and then fill it with all the equipment required inside and out.
This itself began the start of Diverse office space Ltd, our fit out division which now takes complete control of all full turnkey projects, providing everything from decor to M&E services it covers it all, and having the benefit of our own manufacturing unit we provide all steel work in house, keeping lead times to a minimum, the ability to provide you with our 600+ page catalogue to supply everything from office furniture to speed bumps through diverse industries ltd obviously makes us the one stop shop for complete projects.
It has been a bumpy ride with trials and tribulations, but I've loved every minute of it. It just goes to show, with a bit of passion and drive you can achieve anything you want.
Don't get me wrong, it's scary, the risks are high but if you don't try, you will never know.
You don't want to be thinking what if.
