Earlier this year we were contacted by Prestige awards letting us know that we had been selected as one of the candidates for 26/27 awards…. After the judges reviewed all the candidates we were contacted to let us know that we WON!!
The judges noted that they were extremely impressed with SS.

We will be heading to the event @ Edinburgh in October to receive our award in person. 🥇 🥳⚒️

I would like to thank all our amazing clients that gave us there trust and confidence to carry out all the amazing projects that let us showcase what we can do.

Also i would like to thank all the guys that are with us or have been with us in the past, this award is also for you guys i could never have done all of these amazing jobs without you all. Thank you. 🙏

One of our continuous repeat clients here near marykirk.

Shed roof was slated using cheap Chinese slates previously. Stripped off these slates and disposed of.

Nee breathable membrane installed.

Re claimed 14x12 welsh slates supplied graded and slates. Marley dry ridge and hips installed. All waste removed from site.

2x brick chimney stacks collapsed internally after an inspection was carried out. Both chimneys also had started to lean and with a few more of these frequent storms they were likely to collapse.

Carefully stripped down each brick cleaning as we went. And re built the stacks using all reclaimed bricks. New re claimed bricks we have stored at the yard was used to re build internal liners.

Re pointed to match existing with like mortar. New haunching applied to both stacks using masons mortar above and below mortar mix.

Most recently. Extension roof had several leaks. Caused by numerous poor repairs carried out over the years. Leas than minimum head-lap in areas.

Slates carefully stripped off and set aside. New breathable membrane installed. Reclaimed slates, re slates adding 35mm head lap across the roof.

35% extra re claimed slates had to be brought in from our yard. To finish off the roof area keeping all the original look to the property. No new spanish slates like you see all over the countryside these days.

We stock many different slates of all sizes and all re claimed materials ensuring any patch work can be carried out to match existing the best we can. If we do not stock the materials required, we have a long list of suppliers we uae to ensure we keep with the aesthetics of the original look of the properties we work on.

We pride ourselves on the ability to restore the old, build the new Both to the highest standards expected by our clients.

We love working on these sort of jobs, highly rewarding once that last cover comes off and the scaffolding is removed, taking a step back and admiring thr transformation.

Local property here had water coming in above and around the front door area, along with guttering issues.

We stripped back the roof slates that should over hang the wall but in this case the slates sat flush, we extended both sides of the roof out with a 50mm overhang.

We removed the old cast iron gutter hangers and replaced with new, along with fitting new black plastic deep flow rain water goods.

(Cement)!! Render was boss in most areas along with preventing the stone and lime mortar from doing its proper job. We stripped off the render that left quite alot of paint on the stones from previous attempts at something before the render was done. We ised needle guns to clean up all thr stones removing paint and cement stuck to parts of the stones.

Raked out all the joints widening joints where necessary, washed down the wall removing all the dust and any further staining on the stones. Traditional nhl 3.5 lime mortar mix used on this one no masons mortar pre mixed bags. We decided the colour would suit the stone better.

All mortar dampened throughout and protected from the elements using proper! hessian sheets throughout the process of the mortar curing time. 😏

Clients are super pleased with the finish and look forward to continuing with the rest of the house as time goes on.

Selection of recently completed strip and re pointing work. All the mortar we use is supplied by masons mortar. All our work is protected from the elements,and dampened regularly and when necessary the sun and wind is just as bad as that frost for your lime mortar! make sure if you have other contractors in that they are using the correct practices or it will not last for long or do its job.

Lochside in Montrose the roofs are completely done!! timber battens are nail sick, tiles are slowly falling apart.Ridge tiles are loose with joints missing, fscias, soffits are crumbling away, chimney render has either fallen off or is ready to come away, slide down that roof and land on a car, ( or worse someones head) Costly repairs are mounting up with most completely unaware,

To be honest its happening everywhere not just in this area, just because your roof does not show water ingress, does not mean it is not leaking , unsafe or causing very costly damage,

It is the perfect time of year to get that roof done, do not wait until that water is dripping on your head to inspect/ repair or replace that roof. Your pocket will thank you later.

3 strip and re tiles carried out @ lochside Montrose,
2x chimney stacks stripped and re rendered.

Scaffolding up roof off, new battens and membrane, timber repairs carried out where necessary!

New tiles loaded and laid, new ridge fitted with dry ridge system,
Render stripped, new lead fitted on 1 as other 2 had no issues, chimney rendered,
Coping stone repairs carried out on all 3!

Scaffolding down, clean up in 5 days. Little to no disturbance to the clients.

All disposed off by SS.

Huge difference to the appearance of the house’s eye catching, standing out from the rest all with the reassurance that your roof is watertight for the foreseeable future.

These roofs are easy to do out customers where shocked when they received there quotes. Not in a bad way. Others had priced these at nearly double. Which is an insane mark up.

I dont like to put prices on here. But i feel even if i dont get the work at least i know others are not going to over pay.

These roofs can be done from scaffolding to full new roof. ( no corners cut) from £7000+ vat. Depending on spec and extras such as-
Chimneys.
Guttering.
Awkward out buildings hindering scaffold.
Lead work.
Tile choice.

We use the best of materials on all our work, its not worth having call backs trying to save a few £

Out the back of edzell,

Full roof overhaul, front elevation was stripped and re slated, both ends had rotten timber, stripped out rotten timber replacing, re nailed all boards.

New breathable membrane laid, Re slated the roof using original slates supplying slates to match in replacement of breakages.

New lead skews cht and dressed into all gable ends replacing timber. Cement skews are a thing of the past if your skew is cracked damaged lead replacement is a life long fix. If done correctly!

Chimney knocked down and removed, gable end built back to a peak. Cut and dress new copes, eradicating any further issues with an un used chimney without anyone knowing there was a chimney there.

Slate repairs and gutters repairs on the back section.

New gutters fitted on the front.

Ridge lifted and re fitted using dry ridge
System.

All scaffold supplied and erected by SS.

Montrose High street again,

Last year a client asked us to re point this building, the render was removed by others before we came in.

With the location it was very difficult to carry out a pick and re point along with numerous stone replacements.

It was key to protect the public from any rubble/ stone falling. Full protection installed before hand.

New lead flashing installed along shop fronts signage.

4 Windows had damaged Quines we cut and drilled to remove, replacing with like for like stones picked and dressed at the yard, replacing numerous. All windows re sealed with mastic.

Roof repairs carried out along the front and back using rooe access saving the need and cost erecting more scaffold.

Even with all the challenges that we faced it was kept on schedule..turning out exceptionally well and i look up at this every day i pass. Job well done!

We have been mega busy across angus carrying out some amazing work, so its time to start sharing the past and present projects again.

Here is before and after photos of a project on the brechin road - the old mill.

Full pick out of all existing cement mortar, wall washed down all cement and dust removed.

Pointed back using nhl3.5 lime, masons mortar easy point, with added colour pack. Covered with hessian sheets throughout and dampened until mortar had fully cured.

Scaffolding built and supplied by ss, helping to keep costs down.

Hipped roof area also stripped and re slated using cupa heavy 3 slates. With breathable membrane fitted below.

Full transformation and restoration of this stunning building all well keeping the damp out and letting that building breathe again.

Hello everyone, been quite on here for sometime. There has been a couple big changes with the company this year.

One of the owners is no longer with the company. If anyone has been trying to contact david with no success can you please contact the page.

Original SS Stonework is no longer trading it is now SS Stonework ltd. Nothing else has changed still the great service expected and quality as illustrated in the pages gallery

We are looking to expand the company, We are taking bookings right into next year, so in a good position to employ skilled tradesmen. Any masons/ brickies or roofers interested in discussing a deal please reach out. Good rates of pay along with van supplied.
