Reason why we vac down

1. Removes air/non-condensable gases
* Air left in the refrigeration circuit can increase operating pressures.
* It reduces efficiency and can affect system performance.
2. Removes moisture
* This is the really important one.
* Water can react with refrigerant/oil and contribute to acid formation, which can damage the compressor and other components.
* Moisture can also freeze at restrictions, causing poor operation or blockages.
3. Checks the system is reasonably leak-tight
* Once you’ve pulled the vacuum, you isolate the pump and watch whether the vacuum holds.
* If it rapidly rises, you’ve potentially got a leak or another issue that needs investigating.
* A vacuum holding test isn’t a substitute for proper pressure/leak testing.
