A bit more work on the Land Rover Series III Chassis (Levelled up 👍)

Yep. Managed to cut out the rot and replaced the whole inner side section. Welded the new steel all round and welded to the dumb iron by running a bead on the inside of the chassis before fitting the bottom face of the chassis rail. Photo shows new steel in place and ready to be fully welded.

I'll show the finished section once fully welded and I've had a grinder at it. Hard day but I love the finished work.

A bit more work on the Land Rover Series III Chassis (Part 4)

So I cut the existing steel away to accept the new panel and there it is again. More hidden rot in the steel behind the cross member. 🤷‍♂️

A bit more work on the Land Rover Series III Chassis (Part 3)

So once cooled all I had to do was remove the clamps and the panel was pretty much the right shape. Just had to cut the relief shapes into the existing steel and weld it in right?

Nope.....

Chassis is upside down so this is the bottom face just behind the Dumb Irons. All was going well at first.

Cutting the repair panel for the Series III Chassis was easy enough. I got the gas axe to it and let plenty of heat soak into the steel whilst still clamped in place. Allowed it to cool whilst still under the claps whilst I went to hydrate. Hot day in the shop. I was pouring. (Part 2)

Busy day on the Series III chassis. First pic is the inside face of the main chassis rail (such a pain it had taken a hard hit at some point and the steel was very bent and all over the place. Had to cut out the central cross member and the hand brake bracket. The under side of the rail had already been replaced with new steel. Got it all fully welded, cross member and hand brake bracket replaced and moved on to the front of the chassis. The dumb irons had already been replaced but wasn't happy with one section of steel so replaced it. I hope to cut, bend and weld new steel into the underside of the the main chassis, rails behind the dumb irons this afternoon. More pics later I guess 👍
