On to the next chapter 👶🏻🍼

Today we celebrated our wonderful Social Media Manager, Holly, on her last day in the office before she begins her maternity leave. Since joining Heffernans in 2025, Holly has transformed our online presence - from managing our socials with creativity and care, to visiting sites for content, keeping everything updated, and bringing our brand to life every single day.

We’re so proud of everything she’s achieved, and even prouder as she steps into her newest role - becoming a Mummy 😍

The team marked the day with pizza, gifts, and plenty of love. Holly will be very missed, but she’ll be back and in the meantime, our socials will continue to be well looked after, so expect plenty more updates from us.

Maisie Bates - Infrastructure Project Manager

Q: What is your role at Heffernan Utilities?

“I lead the end-to-end delivery of major projects across the electricity and water sectors, ensuring critical infrastructure is designed, built, and commissioned safely and to the required standards.

My role covers the full project lifecycle, from planning and stakeholder engagement to delivery and handover, coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex programmes on time and within budget.”

Q: What does your day-to-day involve?

“A typical day involves coordinating project delivery across different stages, working with engineers, contractors, consultants, and operational staff to ensure alignment.

It includes developing and reviewing project plans, managing risk and change, overseeing procurement strategies, and maintaining control of costs and schedules.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Heffernan Utilities?

“I've developed strong, positive relationships with both my colleagues and contractors, and over the past year, I've greatly expanded my knowledge.

I am continuously building on this and learning something new every day!”

Major Project Update
📍Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax

Works continue to progress well on our major project at Calderdale Royal Hospital, delivered on behalf of EQUANS and the NHS.

The new substation build is now taking shape, with brickwork underway as the structure begins to come together.

Elsewhere on site, excavation works for the service troughs have been completed, with approximately 20 metres of multi-service trench successfully installed to support the next phase of works.

Proud to be playing our part in delivering essential infrastructure that supports vital healthcare services for the local community.

Luke Chapman - Reinstatement Manager

Q: What is your role at Heffernan Utilities?

“I oversee all backfill and reinstatement works across our water, gas and electric divisions, ensuring everything is properly planned, coordinated and delivered to a high standard, safely and efficiently.”

Q: What does your day-to-day involve?

“My role includes monitoring daily operations, resource planning, compliance and quality control. I work closely with supervisors and coordinators to plan programmes, allocate labour, plant and materials, and ensure works are progressing to schedule, alongside forward planning and defect management.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Heffernan Utilities?

“Being part of a growing, family-run business and having the opportunity to support and develop a strong team as the company continues to expand.”

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week 💚, our teams on site have been wearing hi-vis vests carrying a simple but powerful message.

At Heffernan Utilities, we believe mental wellbeing deserves the same level of attention as physical safety. That’s why we actively prioritise mental health across our business, with trained Mental Health First Aiders in place to provide support, guidance, and a listening ear whenever it’s needed.

Sometimes, a simple message or a quick check-in can make all the difference. This week, and every week, we’re committed to making wellbeing part of the conversation.

Not your usual site visitor! 🦔

After spotting this little hedgehog in an excavation area a couple of times, our team made sure it was safely relocated to nearby woodland.

A great reminder that site safety isn't just about people, it's about protecting local wildlife too!
