A new London school science block is now well underway, with the steel frame up and all looking good so far.
As always, I've had an idea of a detail I would do differently on the next one, though mindful that there are practicalities to always be considered.
Nice job though. Looking at completion over the school summer holiday, so open for the next academic year.

I found myself outside a development that was begun 17 years ago, but that I haven't seen since completion, until I passed by today.
It's looking remarkably good after all this time.
Originally two warehouse buildings, the conversion was for commercial use at ground floor with apartments above, and an infill section between the two.
My approach was to assess and retain as much of the original structure as possible, rather than simply rip out and replace - not for cost reasons, but for the appreciation and respect of the original fabric. I remember at the time that the client and architect were surprised that I wanted to go this way, but they agreed, and here we are.
I think it looks great - seventeen years later.

Way back in 2015 I carried out a design alongside Robert Saunders Partnership (Architect) to extend and provide kitchens and dining area to The Bull at Ditchling.
Ten years later I finally get to visit the place and spend an evening there.
It's interesting to see the result and look back at the challenges that we faced along the way.

One of the saddest jobs I have ever had to undertake.
A school fire in North Somerset required me to order immediate demolition of a significant part of the school for safety reasons, curtailing the investigations that were being carried out, all whilst the children were away on holiday. I saw one pupil with his face pressed up against the fencing looking at what remained of his classroom.
I couldn't help but imagine what it must have been like for some children that had been away on holiday, not knowing that the classrooms that they knew so well no longer existed until they arrived home.
This portion was demolished within six days of the fire, and now a replacement wing is underway.

I have for the past year been involved, off and on, with this peculiar school building, in Richmond, Surrey. Sadly it's in very poor condition, with leaks and general distortion and so no longer functions effectively for this purpose, so has to be replaced with a regular new school building. I've tried to find a home for it because I hate to see it destroyed. I have contacted building museums, but they didn't even reply.

To me, it looks like a Roger Dean type 1960s/1970s creation, but I understand it to be 1990s. I have no insight yet into who the architect is/was, or how it came to be, but I will eventually.

If anyone can help save it, dismantle it and take it to a new location, then it's yours. I'd love to see it saved.

In the meantime, I have to work on designs for a less inspiring replacement to serve as a music workshop for the school.

It takes a real expert to notice when a flint wall has been built by someone left-handed, but so obvious with welding.
