😬 Most homeowners don’t notice their mortar’s failing until it’s too late!
Here’s how to spot the early warning signs before damage sets in 👇

🔍 STAGES OF MORTAR FAILING — HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR WALL NEEDS REPOINTING 🧱
(Find out which stage your house is at 👇)

Stage 1 – Early Weathering
Mortar starts losing colour and tightness. Small hairline cracks appear and rain darkens the joints.
👉 Not urgent yet, but worth keeping an eye on.

Stage 2 – Surface Erosion
Mortar face wears back slightly (1–3 mm) and edges of bricks start to show.
👉 Time to plan repointing soon before water gets in.

Stage 3 – Deep Recession
Mortar eroded 5–15 mm and you can scrape it out easily. Bricks begin to take the weather.
👉 Repointing needed now to prevent damage.

Stage 4 – Crumbling & Gaps
Mortar is falling out or turning to dust. Cracks widen and debris collects on the ground.
👉 Urgent repointing required.

Stage 5 – Structural Weakness
Bricks loose or moving, damp inside walls, major gaps in joints.
🚨 Immediate repair or rebuild needed.

💡 Bonus Tip:
If your wall was pointed with cement instead of lime, it might still look fine but be trapping moisture and damaging the bricks underneath. Lime lets your wall breathe — cement doesn’t.
