Weโve had so many emails recently related to flakey render, or render peeling off houses within the first 5 years of the work being completed.
Itโs SO important we address this to help you save lots of money in the long term.
Usually the symptoms of your render peeling/flaking off is due to poor installation, trapped moisture, or the wrong materials initially used.
It usually isnโt the render thatโs the problem. In most cases, the issue comes down to how it was installed.
At a high level:
1. Moisture gets trapped behind the render: If water canโt escape, pressure builds up behind the surface, causing the render to bubble, blister, or eventually flake away.
2. Poor surface preparation: If the wall wasnโt cleaned, repaired, or primed correctly before rendering, the new render wonโt bond properly and can begin to fail much sooner than expected.
3. The wrong materials were used: Not every render is suitable for every property. Using the wrong system or low-quality products can lead to cracking, bubbling, and premature failure. (Even if the house looks great once finished!).
4. Corners were cut during installation: Skipping reinforcement mesh, applying coats too thickly, or not allowing enough curing time can all shorten the lifespan of the render.
We are SO passionate about these things as it not only saves home owners thousands and thousands over the years, it also actually enables the property to look fantastic for many years.
Anyone that has worked with us knows that there is a reason our jobs often take longer to complete (allowing walls to be prepped, dry, and perfect to render), in addition to costing slightly more than competitors because we ONLY use top quality products (products that will allow your house to look stunning for the duration of your life).
Every job we complete we ensure our customers are fully informed of timelines, progress, materials used, and give honest advice on what their house actually needs.
If youโre thinking about rendering your property, please make sure the right materials and installation methods are used from the start. ๐
