Sometimes it’s nice to work on something a little out of the ordinary.

While most of our work focuses on conventional houses, projects beyond that bring a fresh energy to the team. Over the years, we’ve explored houseboat designs, community-led schemes, tiny houses, and even treehouses.

We’re now starting work on a new Pilates studio. Even when the type of project changes, the same principles guide everything we do: thoughtful, sustainable design, careful detailing, and a focus on how spaces are used and enjoyed.

Project update: Last month at Winsley Road, the windows went in and the lime screed was laid.

Next up, we’re preparing for the bricklaying before moving back inside to progress the interior. One of the great things about building a smaller house is how quickly you can see tangible progress, every stage, from structure to finishing, becomes visible.

Kate brings a diverse background, from project management and design roles in retail, to experience working within the NHS, and even running her own greengrocers. Her hands-on approach and creativity make her a fantastic addition to our team.

She’ll be leading projects from concept to completion, bringing her passion for sustainable building to every stage.

It’s always great to see a project move from design into the build phase. We’re looking forward to picking up the Rock Lane project, designed by Josh Wood of Green Trace Architecture .

Following a challenging planning process, which was fully undertaken by Josh, approval has now been granted, clearing the way for works to commence on site. These early stages are crucial in shaping a scheme that responds thoughtfully to its context.

The house has been designed with a passive solar strategy and aims to meet the AECB CarbonLite New Build standard, combining energy efficiency with low-carbon design.

Working with Claire was a real pleasure from start to finish. She’s delighted with her new home, and honestly, so are we.

What made this project particularly special was the sense of community around it: the neighbours even put together a photo book documenting the entire build.

We’re excited to be working with Claire again on a new project, helping transform an office unit into a sleek Pilates studio. We can’t wait to see her vision for the space come to life!

Project update: We’re not far off completing the Passivhaus build at Sutton Benger. This month, we wrapped up the first fix, installing services, patressing, and completing airtightness measures ahead of plasterboarding.

Following our excellent airtightness test results, the focus has now shifted to finishing the stone cladding. Next up will be the interior fit-out and finishes, along with outbuildings and landscaping.

It’s always satisfying to see a project progress from structure to the details that truly bring it to life!

Not our usual project, but we couldn’t turn down the chance to work with Claire again. A few years ago, we built Clare’s house (pictured), and when she asked us to help fit out her new Pilates studio in Finzels Reach, we were genuinely excited at the prospect of teaming up once more.

We can’t wait to see her vision for the space come to life!
