Today is World Down syndrome Day!

We are wearing mismatched socks to raise awareness about Down syndrome.

A person with Down syndrome is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21, so every year we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on the 21st day of the third month to represent the three copies of chromosome 21. People wear mismatched socks because chromosomes look a little like socks and we are all unique.

People with Down syndrome have an intellectual disability, but that does not mean they cannot learn, and people with Down syndrome can lead full and happy lives given the correct support.

The theme for World Down syndrome Day 2026 is Together Against Loneliness. Loneliness can affect anyone, but it often affects people with intellectual disabilities, including Down syndrome, and their families more acutely. Being present is not the same as being included.
