⭐WINNERS!⭐ We are delighted to have won the Institute of Refrigeration UK Beyond Refrigeration Environment Award 2026 for our Booster Integrated Solution Plus (BIS+).

This is a new award for projects that demonstrate the achievements in our sector in the reduction of environmental emissions from cooling. We have now been invited to give a technical paper on the IOR written papers programme to ensure there is awareness of the BIS+ solution. It's an honour to be able to help promote the advancement of technology and support our exciting sector in this way.

The success of BIS+ has been reflected in high client satisfaction, with businesses seeing tangible benefits in energy efficiency, cost savings, and operational performance. As a result, the project has paved the way for future installations and further collaborations, demonstrating the long-term viability of this cutting-edge refrigeration and heat pump solution.

On the award announcement, Operations Director Andy Sealy shared, "This is a fantastic achievement for our whole team and reflects the dedication, innovation and collaboration behind the project.

BIS+ demonstrates that retail refrigeration can go beyond compliance and deliver genuine carbon reduction. By replacing multiple HFC plants and gas boilers with a compact, all-electric CO₂ solution, we have reduced materials, energy use and emissions, while achieving verified lifecycle carbon savings of around 180 tonnes and delivering a strong commercial return.

This award reinforces our belief that natural refrigerant systems, combined with intelligent controls and continuous improvement, can set a new benchmark for low-carbon refrigeration and heating for our customers across the retail and industrial sectors. We look forward to building on this success and helping more businesses transition away from fossil fuels."

See what's involved in a routine maintenance visit in this fantastic video taken when Industrial Service and Maintenance Engineers, Callum Cull and Jamie Knight, visited a food manufacturing customer this week.

The 10,000 hr service on a Sabroe SMC 112S compressor consisted of:

-An oil and filter change
-Fit suction and discharge service kits
-Clean suction strainers
-Check all tolerances to ensure they’re in line with Sabroe’s specifications
-General health check

Finally, the engineers respray the compressor body to make it look new again.

I’m sure you’ll agree there's nothing 'routine' about these skills!❄️

The Space Engineering Services Capital Projects teams are on site at a new Sainsbury's chilled food distribution centre in Avonmouth, Bristol, where we are responsible for the full refrigeration fit-out.

When it comes to our involvement, this project followed a complete end to end process, with our consultant and design division involved at every stage, and our manufacturing facility designing and building the refrigeration rack system, before handing over to our project teams.

SYSTEM INFORMATION:

2 off ECO2 MIDI 4x0 HT packs housed within a dual walk-in enclosure. The enclosure also contains a glycol water side pump station and controls for hot gas defrosting.

Each pack provides 165kW MT capacity at -6C evaporating temperature and includes a 500L integrated liquid receiver vessel. All compressors are Bitzer line-start permanent-magnet (LSPM) motor technology, making it possible to fully exploit the high motor efficiency and low heat input into the refrigerant. The result is a higher SEPR (annual performance figures) of up to 14%.

When a well-known food distribution company asked us to provide cooling solutions for their new 60,000 sq ft depot near Worcester, our manufacturing teams rose to the challenge.

Before our manufacturing engineers could get to work, our designers came up with a bespoke solution that would meet the cooling demands of a large distribution building with 2 x ECO₂ Maxi Housed walk-in refrigeration plants.

Each plant boasts parallel compression, heat reclaim, hot gas defrost and mechanical subcooling. Remote gas cooler and LT desuperheater.

MT design capacity 150 kW SST -8°C
LT design capacity 198 kW SST -33°C

The ECO₂ Maxi is a natural, large capacity refrigeration system using R744/CO2. This HT or dual temperature unit is ideal for larger retail, industrial or processing applications with cooling requirements from 150kW to 300kw HT.

The ECO₂ Maxi combines the low and high temperature cooling requirements of large format stores into a single, internal frame, housed or packaged solution, which also offers full compressor diagnostics and a CO₂ leak detection alarm.
