We're absolutely delighted to have been named Business of the Year (30+ employees) at last night's Innovation in Business Awards, hosted by Liverpool Chamber of Commerce CIC! 🥳🎉

It was extra special to have several of our apprentices and with us to share in the excitement, and have the opportunity to learn about the many innovative businesses which are carrying the City Region forward.

Thank you to the Chamber for hosting such an amazing event and congratulations to all of the finalists and winners!

Thanks to a series of local contract wins earlier this year, we've been able to boost our and intake with six new starters from local colleges and joining us!

Among those new contracts is the management and maintenance of systems at The City of Liverpool College, which has led directly to the recruitment of Air Conditioning apprentices Jack Gleave and Michael Murray, who will now be studying and working on behalf of the at different times during their .

Kimpton was also appointed to the College’s minor works framework, paving the way to hire Grace Maddock as a graduate construction manager working in our Turnkey Division.

Trainee document controller Millie Davies has taken up her new role in our expanding High-Rise Residential division alongside design apprentice Henry Christian, while electrical engineering apprentice Lewis Chapman joins our Division.

We're passionate advocates of apprenticeships and technical training and we're proud to have 17 apprentices within the business, as well as graduates. Our plan for this year was to add one or two apprentices, but our success in recent tenders allowed us to reconsider.

An excellent example of local leading to local jobs, investment in and and a circular economy in action!

As part of a major refurbishment project at the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, Kimpton have donated furniture and carpet tiles to brand new and youth hub, Shine Together

Based in Liscard, Shine Together was set up by Michelle Naylor to support families in the local area. It features a social supermarket, community cafe, kids after-school clubs and youth clubs.

Working with the team at ACC Liverpool, our Turnkey Construction team have saved over 600 carpet tiles and over 20 chairs from landfill, which will now be used to furnish the hub's art room, gaming room and social supermarket!

Carpet tiles are difficult to so can be very expensive to deal with . By them with fantastic community schemes such as Shine Together we're saving our customers money while saving from landfill.

By creating at the same time, these kinds of initiatives are always a win win!

Kimpton are excited to announce that our MEP Projects team will be delivering the £2.0m MEP package on the new Chester History Centre for Kier Construction.

The new centre will form part of Chester's City Gateway Masterplan and help to transform the way people access the archives, opening up a collection that dates back more than 900 years, to a whole new audience.

The structure is being built to BREEAM Excellent Standard, ensuring from day one and very stringent standards throughout.

The contract covers all aspects of the electrics throughout and the and cooling via a VRF system. We will also be delivering all of the above ground drainage throughout.

Ventilation is critical in BREEAM buildings to ensure a turnover of air without creating draughts. In addition there is domestic and the water supply for kitchen and bathrooms for staff and customers within the centre.

Working to BREEAM standards means sustainable energy measures throughout and it will include a large array on the roof to provide power, high spec windows with designed overhangs to provide shading where needed and draw warmth and light from the low winter sun, as well as superb .

It will also ensure very low ongoing running costs, even for a large open building such as this. The additional benefit of this is lower waste emissions and lower CO2 emissions into the future.

The Kimpton team expect to join Kier on site in July for a completion in April 2026.

After two of the Kimpton team received support from Ronald McDonald House Charities United Kingdom at Arrowe Park Hospital they were pleased to be able to return the favour and support another local charity at the same time.

Ronald McDonald House is a charity that provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families while their child is in hospital. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life and reducing emotional and financial strain.

Their house based at Arrowe Park Hospital had kindly been donated new beds for their facility but had been quoted a minimum of £1900 to have over 20 of the old beds removed. These were taking up space in one of the communal areas, and would have prevented the annual Christmas tree decoration where the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House decorate the Christmas tree with help from the local mayor.

Having recently received support from the charity, Phil Higham decided he wanted to help. He made a request to Lee Williams for some logistical support and after a phone call with Claire Donovan at End Furniture Poverty, Lee saw an opportunity to help even more local charities. He was put in touch with Bee Wirral CIC, a non-profit community organisation dedicated to supporting and providing for people in Birkenhead through activities, services and training.

Working with the House Manager Katie, the House Team from Ronald MacDonald House and the BEE CIC Team, Phil, Lee Williams, Steve Davies and matthew clare from Kimpton were able to save the beds from landfill and have them distributed immediately to those in need. This included families and the elderly who would have previously been sleeping on the floor.

Phil Higham said “Being able to utilise the facilities provided at Ronald McDonald House made a stressful and emotional period for myself and my partner much more comfortable. It was great to be able to save them money on the removal cost of the beds and help another great local charity at the same time.”

Well, that was a busy !

On Tuesday we spent a very busy evening at The City of Liverpool College Open Evening/Employer Market Place meeting with students studying at the college, and school leavers debating their next steps. There was loads of interest from students who we chatted with about the various pathways into at Kimpton, alongside the other employers attending.

On Thursday, Grace Roberts, Niamh Smith and Matt Breakwell spent the day delivering Enterprise Challenges to 160 students at Grace’s old school, South Wirral High School as part of their day. We explained the apprenticeship pathway into and the excellent salaries available which aren't well understood - if we’re going to attract the talent our industry needs, we need to talk about money!

We then explained some of the renewable technologies and energy efficiency measures we’re deploying to buildings for our customers. Student “Energy Assessors” from each group then toured the school to identify where energy is being wasted (windows open, lights on in empty rooms etc) returning with ideas to help the group build models of an energy-efficient school using recyclable rubbish – very Blue Peter!

At the end students presented their solutions showing how they would reduce waste, carbon and energy use with measures such as improved insulation, PIR light sensors in classrooms and from rainwater harvesting to solar PV and wind power.

Many years ago, Liverpool lost the training provision for commercial heating/plumbing and so around half our apprentices attend Salford City College Group. On Thursday evening, Keith Watts, our apprentice mentor, and I had a great night at their Annual Apprentice Awards and were delighted to win the Medium-sized Employer of the Year award!

On Friday morning, Matt joined Liverpool City Region Careers Hub to celebrate the launch of Equalex, an ambitious national plan to reinvent for school children which is being piloted in .

The pilot will test a new framework to improve work experience. It replaces the traditional two-week block with multiple experiences totalling 10 days throughout secondary education. The pilot is one of four across England, each testing a different part of the new model, before the project is scaled up to allow for national roll-out.

equalex will provide a greater depth of real experiences in the workplace and make it easier for employers to deliver them, in smaller chunks. It will also provide support for teachers to leave the classroom and spend time with employers. This is vital if teachers are to understand the range of careers available locally, and the pathways into them.

We've got excellent in the Liverpool City Region with an abundance of keen young men and women, looking for an opportunity. If you're wondering where to look for talent, we can't recommend speaking to them enough!

As the year draws to a close, we've had a look back at our 2024 highlights.

In January 34 of us spent a weekend in Copenhagen getting to know each other outside the office. Our team are our greatest asset and we work hard to train and retain the best in the business. Keith Marsden, one of our site supervisors celebrated 40 years with us, we introduced paid employee volunteering and other benefits and trained more qualified Mental Health & Su***de First Aiders, bringing the total to 17.

Our programme continues to thrive thanks to our relationships with local . We welcomed 7 new apprentices including Caitlin, our first female engineer on the tools and Joel, the LCRs first Building Services T Level graduate, bringing our team of apprentices to 16. Our total number of employees grew to over 100 for the first time.

We supported dozens of careers events including our client Warrington & Vale Royal College at their 'Girls in Construction Summit 2024'. We've become a Cornerstone Employer for the Liverpool City Region Careers Hub because no one is getting to Net Zero without .

We’ve continued to support and donate to local charities and community schemes. 18 team members completed a 60 mile ride around the Wirral to celebrate our 60th year and raise money for The OddBalls Foundation and we sponsored Future Yard's annual celebration of emerging music, FUTURE NOW. We also helped ACC Liverpool welcome 140,000 bees to a newly built wildflower garden at M&S Bank Arena Liverpool.

We're loving sponsoring Higher Bebington Under 12 Girls who tough it out in a boys league. They've played in National Tournaments and recently narrowly lost to Manchester City Football Club U12 Girls at their training ground.

We proudly sponsored the Entertainment Venue of the Year category at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards and celebrated seeing ACC Liverpool win the prize.

We had a cracking awards season - finalists in the Insider Media Property Awards for sustainability, finalists in 5 categories at the Liverpool Chamber Innovation Awards and a fantastic win at the Merseyside Independent Business Awards for Best Trade or Manufacturing Business.

We've had some great project wins. We started on site on schemes in Cardiff, Bath and Manchester. We helped deliver the Labour Party Conference and Liverpool Hope University renewed our Contract, extending our relationship to over 15 years. We proudly completed the Town Deal funded refurbishment of Make CIC Hamilton - as Future Yard say, The Future is Birkenhead.

We successfully completed an MBO several years in the making and will now be led by a team of directors as we continue to grow.

We want to thank all of you for your support, business and friendship over 2024. We wish you all health and happiness and look forward to an even more exciting 2025!

This season Kimpton have proudly sponsored Higher Bebington JFC Under 12 Girls who have been absolutely smashing it in National Tournaments and the Wallasey boys league.

The team have recently gone up against Manchester City U12 Girls at their training ground and despite being narrowly defeated 4-2 they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

We’d like to wish the girls good luck in their upcoming Aces National Tournament!

Kimpton are proud to welcome seven new to our team, taking the total number to 17 across the business.

We've spent the past few years developing our strategy, shifting from the traditional method of recruiting school leavers, to working closely with the excellent vocational colleges we have across the to offer their students a range of pathways into an career.

Caitlin Irvine, George Morris, Ajay Sturdy, Stephen Collins, Joel Breen and Alex Littler come from a diverse range of qualification pathways and will enter a variety of roles. George and Caitlin will both train as commercial heating service engineers, having both completed Technical Plumbing Diploma Level 3 at local colleges, Caitlin from The City of Liverpool College and George from Hugh Baird College.

Meanwhile, four apprentices - Grace Roberts, Fionn Tierney, Josh Anderson and Harrison Jones graduate this year.

Ajay joins following a successful placement on a scheme in Birmingham and will remain living in his native West Midlands, travelling to support our specialist team working on student accommodation PBSA and projects around the UK. Alex and Stephen both completed work experience placements having also obtained a technical diploma in and were subsequently offered an apprenticeship role.

Joel, a new technical apprentice, was part of the first-ever cohort of students in the city region to complete a in , at City of Liverpool College. The T-Level qualification provides a specialised route into the industry and Joel’s chosen career as a Contract Manager. Studying exactly what we do for two years to the equivalent of 3 A Levels put Joel streets ahead of the other candidates we interviewed.

Sam Kerr, our new AC apprentice is now working with the Maintenance team at ACC Liverpool.

By engaging with local and colleges to offer industry insight and , our college and partners recognise us as responsible employers of choice and we enjoy working collaboratively with them to identify and nurture that pipeline of young talent.

In a sector where women are traditionally under-represented, we're also committed to creating equal opportunities for everyone, from all parts of society. Diversifying our industry is the only way we'll address a skills shortage created by only recruiting from half the population for hundreds of years!

We’ve always invested in apprenticeships (9 of the 14 members of our senior management team started with us as an apprentice!) but, with such a strong talent pool to recruit from, we’ve been able to increase the number of apprentices we train each year.

The diversity of routes taken by our newest apprentices reflects Kimpton’s commitment to unearthing and investing in, the best new talent from across the city region and giving them a platform for a fulfilling career in an industry on the front line to .

This week 10 of the Kimpton team completed the two-day Mental Health First Aid England accredited course to become Metal Health First Aiders!

Back in 2022, we engaged with experienced local MHFA trainer, Sean Liddell to run a series of Mental Health Resilience Workshops. 20 members of our management team completed a mental health awareness workshop and we trained eight Mental Health First Aiders and two Su***de First Aiders across the Kimpton Team. The feedback was so positive that we invited Sean back to deliver the course to more of the team, so that there will always be someone available to provide support and help when needed!

However much we are diversifying our team, we recognise that we have a majority male workforce and su***de is the biggest killer of men under 45 – with the Construction industry statistics being three times the national average.

As an organisation, we are committed to ensuring we keep our staff safe and healthy. We are working to reduce the stigma around and encourage it to be openly discussed and supported within the workplace.
