When does a standard plastic component become a compromise?

When the dimensions are nearly right.
When the fit requires an extra assembly step.
When the material does not quite suit the application.
Or when you are adapting your product around the component, rather than the other way around.

…that is where a custom injection moulding can make sense.

UB Plastics works with OEMs, technical buyers and manufacturers to develop components around a specific product or application, from inserts and end caps to brackets, sealing parts and protective components.

We can work from an existing drawing or get involved earlier, providing input on part geometry, materials and tooling before moving into repeat production at our Burton-upon-Trent facility.

If the standard part is not quite doing the job, it may be time to design one that does.

A component leaving the mould is not the end of the manufacturing process.

For high-volume injection moulding, consistency needs to continue through inspection, identification, packing and dispatch.

At UB Plastics, our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system covers the complete process:
Tooling & setup ➡️ First-off inspection ➡️ Production ➡️ In-process checks ➡️ Traceability ➡️ Packaging & dispatch

This structured approach is particularly important when producing repeat orders at scale, where customers need the next batch to meet the same requirements as the last.

From our Burton-upon-Trent facility, we combine high-volume moulding capability with documented quality processes designed to maintain consistency throughout production and supply.

Running short of one plastic component can disrupt an entire production schedule.

For customers placing repeat or high-volume orders, UB Plastics can combine UK injection moulding with flexible stockholding and planned deliveries. This helps maintain continuity of supply without requiring customers to receive every component as soon as it is manufactured.

📦 Agreed stock levels can be held for repeat orders
📅 Scheduled deliveries can be aligned with production requirements
🔄 Kanban-style replenishment can help reduce unnecessary inventory
🏭 Split deliveries and multi-site fulfilment can be arranged where required
🔎 Part identification, batch tracking, and barcode labelling support traceability

From manufacturing and final inspection through to packing, storage, and delivery, each stage can be managed from our Burton-upon-Trent facility.

What causes many injection moulding problems?

Often, it is not the moulding machine. It is a design decision made before the tool reaches production.

Uneven wall thicknesses, unsuitable draft angles, poor material flow and shrinkage can all affect the quality, consistency and cost of the finished component.

This is why UB Plastics supports customers during the product design stage, reviewing how a component will be tooled, filled, cooled and ejected before manufacturing begins.

Using DFM reviews, CAD modelling and Moldflow analysis, our team can identify potential problems earlier and refine the design before tooling investment is committed.

The earlier we are involved, the more opportunity there is to reduce production risks, avoid unnecessary tool modifications and develop a component that is ready for reliable, repeatable manufacture.

Small components can have a significant effect on the performance and appearance of a finished window or door system.

End caps, inserts and protective mouldings must fit accurately, remain consistent across large production runs and integrate cleanly with the surrounding assembly.

UB Plastics manufactures precision injection moulded components for windows, doors and glazing systems at our Burton-upon-Trent facility. We work with fenestration manufacturers to produce both established components and bespoke parts developed for specific product ranges.

With in-house product design support, modern injection moulding equipment and flexible packaging and delivery options, we can manage each project from the initial component concept through to repeat production.

Branding a moulded component doesn’t have to mean adding a separate production stage.

With in-mould labelling, a pre-printed label is positioned inside the tool before the plastic is injected. The label bonds with the component during moulding, creating a durable, high-quality finish that will not peel away and requires no secondary labelling process.

At our Burton-upon-Trent facility, we operate eight fully automated in-mould labelling cells, combining multi-cavity tooling with high-speed robotics to support consistent, high-volume production.

Our capabilities include:
🔹 Up to five-colour branding
🔹 Precise and repeatable label placement
🔹 Automated production of caps, lids, tubs and custom mouldings
🔹 Support from initial product design and tooling through to moulding, packaging and delivery

For food, beverage and packaging manufacturers, this provides an efficient way to combine component production and detailed branding within one controlled process.

A plastic spacer or end cap is just a tiny detail - until it cracks on-site and stalls an entire installation crew.

In the construction sector, minor components face major real-world stress. If they are not durable, accurate, and perfectly repeatable, they cost you time, safety, and reputation.

For over 40 years, UB Plastics has manufactured high-performance, injection-moulded parts engineered specifically to handle the demands of the built environment.

WHAT WE BRING TO SITE:
🏗️ End Caps: Protecting installers and finishing metalwork, cladding, and balconies.
🏗️ Inserts & Spacers: Ensuring flawless, accurate alignment in assembled systems.
🏗️ Protective Components: Guards, covers, and buffers built for transport and site safety.
🏗️ Bespoke Mouldings: Formed from scratch with our in-house design and toolmaking.

With 23 modern machines (35T to 220T) and advanced robotics, we scale to high volumes to keep your project on schedule. Everything is manufactured at our UK facility and delivered in trade-friendly, clearly labelled packaging designed for immediate distribution or direct site deployment.

A leaked cask means wasted product, contamination, and lost revenue 🍺

Since 1983, we’ve been manufacturing two-piece plastic shives at our facility in Burton-upon-Trent to keep stainless steel cask fleets sealed properly from the filling line to the cellar.

Our design focuses on practical engineering to handle real-world brewery conditions:
🔹 The Two-Piece Advantage: We pair a rigid LLDPE body to withstand heavy broaching impact with a softer EVA sealing band.
🔹 Compensating for Wear: Cask bushels inevitably wear down over time. While a completely rigid shive will start to leak on an older cask, our flexible sealing band deforms to absorb that variation—keeping your older casks in active service longer.
🔹 The No. 5 Shive: Our standard setup for cask bushels that are still in good overall condition.
🔹 The No. 4.5 Shive: Built with a larger sealing membrane for extra compression, providing a practical fix for worn bushels prone to intermittent leaks.

We mould these to a strict +/-0.1mm dimensional tolerance, so you get the exact same fit batch after batch. Because we manufacture them directly in the UK, you get shorter lead times and a much more reliable supply when seasonal demand peaks.
