π° COST β around Β£1.5 billion. Sounds a lot? Spread over a 60 year lifespan powering 450,000 homes, that works out at roughly Β£55 per home per year. Cheaper than virtually any other form of generation.
π SIZE β no bigger than a large industrial unit. It would sit discreetly on the outskirts of town, not dominate the landscape.
π· JOBS β hundreds of highly skilled, well paid local jobs during construction and operation. The kind of jobs Buxton needs.
β’οΈ CLEAN β nuclear produces just 12g of COβ per kWh over its entire lifecycle. That's cleaner than solar, on a par with wind, and 68 TIMES cleaner than coal.
π‘οΈ HEATING β surplus heat from the plant could be piped directly into local homes, slashing energy bills across the town. Perfect for a place as cold as Buxton! π₯Ά
The technology exists RIGHT NOW. The Rolls-Royce SMR design is the most advanced in the UK and ready to build.
The only thing standing in the way is political will.
