Archico have completed early technical documentation for a Class Q (agricultural barn to residential) ICF Passivhaus project in Launceston, Cornwall.
A self build development, our clients new home and separate annex will leave the existing agricultural barn largely untouched, constructing the Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) structure to the inside of the steel portal frame and box profile metal sheet finish.
This project is incredibly high performance with an additional focus on low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds, carbon-based chemicals that evaporate at room temperature) materials throughout the construction build up. Alongside the XPS based ICF system being supplied by R Wall, Steico Wood Fibre Board and Intello Plus AVCL membranes will be installed as part of the roof construction to aid achieving the high performance nature of the wall, floor and roof build ups at 0.11W/m2K, 0.09W/m2K and 0.086W/m2k across these elements.
Beyond thermal performance, Passivhaus requires incredibly high air tightness score of below 0.6 air changes per hour, thermal bridge free detailing, high performance external doors and windows and an MVHR ventilation system that continuously pulls in fresh, filtered outside air while extracting internal stale air.
We look forward to working on more high performance and sustainably driven projects in the future.
