Repaired and serviced a Fender Blues Deluxe guitar combo.

Fault reported/work requested:-
Started to break up a bit at higher volume, especially with hot pickups.

Removed rear cover for inspection/repairs.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. OK. Checked power filter and decoupling capacitors; checked plate and screen grid resistors OK. Replaced blown pilot lamp.
Electrically tested all valves OK.
Checked DC voltages and reset bias for 70mV at the test points.
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly.
Checked reverb, foot switching and loop operation OK.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK (56V p-p into an 8Ω reactive load = 49W RMS).
Concluded all checks and tests OK, Reassembled.

Repaired and serviced a Vox AC15C2 guitar combo.

Fault reported:-
Horrid noise then no audio.

Removed rear cover for inspection/repairs.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. Noted catastrophic output vave failure due to lost vacuum (cracked glass envelope, getter gone white). Installed a new matched pair of 6BQ5/EL84.
Electrically tested all other vaves OK. Cleaned power filter capacitors also screen grid and power resistors OK.
Checked DC and bias voltages OK.
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly.
Checked reverb, vibrato and foot switch operation OK.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK (43.6V p-p into a 16Ω resistive load = 14.9W RMS).
Concluded audio and function checks OK, reassembled.

Repaired and serviced a Laney Iron Heart 120 (IRT120H) guitar head.

Faults reported:-
OD channel not working properly, possibly issue with loop?

Removed rear cover and extracted the amp chassis for inspection/repairs.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. OK. Tightened down loose power transformer. Noted clean/rhythm switch not working (intrnal mechanical failure) - replaced with new.
Electrically tested all valves - outputs showing issues; PI and pre-amps OK. Installed a new matched quad of Shuguang EL34B (L 31mA 9/9).
Checked DC voltages OK; set bias for 70% anode load (74mA each pair - B+ = 470V DC).
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly. Checked reverb, loop and DI OK.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK (135V p-p into a 16Ω resistive load = 142.4W RMS).
Concluded audio and function checks and tests OK, reassembled.

Repaired and serviced a Linn Basik turntable.

Fault reported / work requested:-
Bring back to life, unit has high sentimental value.

Initial inspection - Hinges and mat missing. Checked condition of the Akito tonearm - stiff and worn bearings; motor rotation and drive belt OK - no suspected issues; cartridge coil continuity OK but stylus has a bent cantilever - replacement required.
Removed the tonearm, platter and hub, cleaned away old oil from the spindle and bearing housing. Cleaned all deck surfaces satisfactorily. Installed a replacement Linn Basik Plus tonearm (sourced as used equipment and checked to be in perfect working order). Topped up the bearing with new Linn "black" turntable oil and reinstalled the hub, belt and platter. Fitted a new platter mat and hinges. Fitted a good replacement stylus and checked arm calibration and alignment OK - minor adjustments performed.
Checked operation with vinyl records OK.
Fitted the lid.

Repaired and serviced a Marshall JCM800 2205 guitar head.

Faults reported:-
Volume is low and it doesn’t sound like it should; some very stiff control pots.

Removed rear cover and extracted the amp chassis for inspection/repairs.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. OK. Confirmed 3x stiff control pots.
Electrically tested all valves OK.
Checked DC voltages and bias, found HT missing on V1b - R7 gone open. Removed the PCB for repairs, replaced R7 and the 3x control pots with new. Reinstalled the board for test. operation now good.
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly. Checked reverb, foot switch, loop and DI OK.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK (78V p-p into a 16Ω resistive load = 47.5W RMS).
Concluded audio and function checks and tests OK, reassembled.

Removed rear cover and extracted the amp chassis for inspection/repairs.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. Noted a fractured wire at the bias decoupling capacitor of the valve PI stage.
Checked DC voltages and bias OK.
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly
Checked reverb, vibrato and foot switch operation OK.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK.
Concluded audio and function checks OK, reassembled.

Repaired and serviced a Fender Deluxe Reverb-Amp (AB763) guitar combo.

Fault reported:-
Noisy; random noises; Vibrato not working.

Removed rear cover and extracted the amp chassis for inspection/repairs.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. Noted new cathode bypass capacitors fitted during a previous repair. Removed the "dog house" for inspection of the HT capacitors - noted some leakage - replaced all with new.
Electrically tested all valves, PI noisy and reverb drive weak - replaced with NOS Telefunken; outputs unmatched and weak - replaced with a new matched pair of Electro-Harmonix 6V6; all other pre-amps and rectifier OK. Cleaned the valve sockets.
Checked DC voltages and reset bias OK.
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly - cleaned/deoxidised all control pots satisfactorily. Noted some DC noise on the volume controls - replaced leaky 250pF coupling capacitors with new silver mica type.
Checked reverb, vibrato and foot switch operation OK.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK (40V p-p into an 8Ω reactive load = 25W RMS).
Concluded audio and function checks OK, reassembled.

Repaired and serviced a Sony TA-1630 integrated amp.

Fault reported / work requested:-
Dead, blown internal fuses and short between +/-32V rails.

Removed the top cover for access.
Confirmed fault reported, suspect failure in the right channel output stages.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. Noted some previous repair-work to the left channel. Noted/replaced 3x blown fuses. Detected shorted output transistors. Removed the power amp assembly for repairs. Replaced the transistors with new JEDEC standard TIP31/32 (the original japanese transistors are no longer available, also the left channel has already been done in this way). Powered up with DBT current limiting in place - normal load indicated. Reinstalled the module for full test.
Checked midpoint and quiescent OK for the recommended 25mV. Checked all DC voltages present and correct. Switched to full wall power for continued testing Set quiescent for 25mA at the test points on each channel.
Connected loudspeakers and checked operation with audio OK.
Noted noisy control pots and switches - cleaned/deoxidised satisfactorily
Checked all inputs and outputs OK.
Checked output voltage, symmetry and channel balance OK.
Confirmed operation OK refitted cover.
